I visited Mendip Farmers on Wednesday and not my normal hunt. I was horrified that when I was last to go through a gate which needed tying I was left on my own and nobody stayed behind to help. My horse was going nuts and I had to deal with him, the gate and then trying to mount. This would never happen with my hunt at least 2 people always stay behind to do the gates/hold horses. I was a visitor and did not have a clue about the country and was totally left. They were not on a run and there was nothing happening.

I'm surprised they didn't have gate shutters for the day. But still wouldn't happen with us if we didn't have gate shutters at least two people would have stayed back and a visitor would've been told to go on.

Thats is rude! It wouldn't ever happen with my hunt either. Very inconsiderate!

I doubt you'll visit them in a hurry again.

I think there should be a hunt ratings website!
I just feel that people are getting away with murder on the hunting field at the moment with bad manners and rudeness. Next pack I intend to visit is Taunton Vale have only heard good things!

Gosh that is a really rude thing to do to anybody, but to a visitor, shocking. I open a fair few gates, but my horse would never stand alonefor meto mount up, well done to you for managing it.

That happened to me when I went out with the Mendip a few years ago, as well. This girl was about to disappear when I yelled at her to stay.

Send a letter to the hunt sec. Thank them for the day and mention your surprise at the lack of manners shown by some field members.

Hunts need all the good PR they can get let alone peeing off supporters.

Well I’m sorry to hear you have had a bad day but bad mouthing the hunt of on a forum site isn’t going to help. You should contact the secretary and put your feelings across to her, not put the hunt down. You don’t know that the people in front of you weren’t visitors too, yes I agree that they should still have waited with you but airing your views on hear will not help any hunt. When I have visited a pack I have always had a warm welcome especially from the Mendip farmers hunt.

See I disagree - this is a pretty good way of doing it! What is a secretary going to do? The amount of horses kicking hounds and other horses has gone up as have rude manners and not much is being done. If anyone types in google they will see this post. I thought long and hard about doing it and I am sure this hunt is not the only ones guilty of this. Also they took my name and address so they can contact me. I also have not written anything defamatory just stated the facts. You would be surprised who reads this forum.

I think you are right voicing your annoyance TBH!

It has happened to me with the OB, I had NO clue where I was, luckily I called a girl from my yard and she turned and came back - it happened to us 3 times and the last time this guy cantered past without a thank you or "can I help" and I am afraid to say I shouted after him and when I caught up with him gave him some choice words!
