my horses were all on full livery yesterday, got up the yard this morning and was pottering about before letting pony out and she was intently watching me the whole time..normally she starts kicking the door the second she see's me. said to my eldest had she noticed soph hadnt kicked the door yet. put them out and went off to view a new livery yard.while i was on the yard later YO hubby turns up to do other horses and he comes into my stable and says
i had some fun with sophie yesterday, she was kicking the door so i told her id come and kick her in the guts if she did it again, she did it again so i went in and kicked her in the guts and she ran to the back of the stable,he then goes on to say it wasnt just a kick ,it was quite a hefty kick and she stood like a lamb to be rugged and to go to the field! no wonder she didnt kick the bloody door this morning, she probably thought id do the same thing to her! its not the first time either that he has done something like this. ashleighs horse bucks and fidgets when you rug him ,yet when he does his rugs the horse doesnt move a muscle.when he walks past the stables and the horses back off he makes jokes about how they are scared of him.i didnt know that until my daughter mentioned it .makes you wonder what he does to the horses when you arn't there.. this bloke isnt small either he must be 6ft 6 with a build to match.i dont where in the belly he kicked her but ive checked her over and she doesnt show any signs of discomfort but she must be bruised.
my horses are being moved next weekend.

Flipping heck! Tell him if he ever dares to threaten any horse again you'll kick HIM in the guts! And then do it!

What's more of a worry is he obviously (from his comments) see's nothing wrong with what he did!!!

That's terrible - what a k**b. I fully agree horses do need "firm" handling (at times) but nothing like that !! I usually find that people that think they have to act like this around horses are actually scared themselves. Hope you give him what for when you leave. I'd kick him if he kicked my horse like that no matter how big and hard he thought he was.

We once went to a riding school in Manchester. The teacher was great and we were even thinking of buying a pony from there. But his answer to a pony that wouldn't move through a doorway because there were too many people in the way was to kick it like this.

Then a pony fell over with a little girl on it. He used a grass string to tie it's head to it's chest so every time it moved it fell over. He also thought he was doing nothing wrong.

We stopped having lessons there after that. We couldn't cope with the cruelty. It was a shame as he was a great teacher

What the F**k. I agree with missshell report him for abuse!

And defo go and kick him in the guts and the balls while your at it (thats if he has any, Dont think he does if he miss treats animals!)

There is no need to treat an animal in that way!

Sooner you are moved the better. Hope she is ok bless her

Thats horrible.
I admit, my if my ponies kick me, i give them a kick in the belly, but just firm enough, and of course be friendly to them after
But the thought of someone else doing it is terrbile! (my RI does, but i trust her and the horses arent scared of her)
But to think of what he could be doing when your not there...aghh, id be packing my bags, refusing to pay the livery and threatening to take him to court! Though i probably wouldnt actually go that far...

piebald sparkle , your right ,he doesnt see anything wrong with it. i wish soph had turned round and booted him straight back. one day he will kick the wrong horse.
anyway the new yard is very nice, has an enclose yard which you can let the horses wander around on, all off road hacking around the farm. they can live out in the summer and in winter are stabled at night. there is an arena a 10 minute hack away that we can hire for a fiver an hour and i also know the owner of that yard as well. best of all its 15 quid a week ! all i need now is lots of HHO sophie get on the trailer and stay on it vibes next sunday please

Your poor pony! I hope shes not feeling to bruised.

I cant believe the bloke could even dream of kicking someone elses pony let alone tell them! I would of gone mad if anyone had kicked my ponies! You should kick him back when your just about to leave.

I have also witnessed a few people kicking horses in the guts one at horse riding holiday place in kent! The poor pony could hardly breathe after it made my blood boil then a farrier using one of the tools and jabbing it into the horses gut rather to hard but i was to young to speak up then and just watched in disbleif that people can be so cruel.

The 'groom' at a yard I was on many moons ago resorted to those kind of tactics. He went as far as to bite the lip of a horse that bit him..he went straight the the horses soft muzzle!I am aware that horses need to be told but a kick to the 'guts' is downright cruelty and whats more (but shouldnt make a difference) is that you are a paying customer and its not his horse!!
Good on you for moving. Losing money might be the only way this guy learns!

She'll go on the trailer - you have proved to yourself that she will - just give yourself plenty of time (because then she'll walk straight on and you will turn up early

) - never expect to fail.

My god.. this sort of thing makes me sick...NO animal deserves to be kicked under any circumstances, we're supposed to be the intellegent race, makes you wonder doesn't it. I have never kicked (or bitten) any animal, there are ways of dealing with things and that's not it. It's abuse, no other word for it. I'm sorry but it's the same as people who say that when their toddler bites them they bite it back WTF!!!

I hope that you will be making it crystal clear to the YO AND all other liveries exactly WHY you are leaving!

In your position I would be whispering in a lot of ears about that sort of behaviour.

Enjoy your new yard.

I'm amazed that anyone would think it OK to kick a horse in the belly. Even if it's kicked out at them, there is no need for that. I've been around many horses for many years and have never felt the need to react in that way. It is easy to make it clear that kicking is unacceptable without physical contact.

To kick someone else's horse in the belly is unacceptable, but sadly on many yards (not just full livery) people think it's OK to "sort out" other people's horses. It might not be kicking them in the belly, might be altering feeds, teaching lessons in leading etc.

But - if the physical act that this man carried out is bad - ie kicking a horse in the belly - would it be OK if the owner had done it?
