Bloomfields/Nissan Horseboxes 😡

Please be aware if you should buy a new Bloomfields Horsebox built on a NIssan NV400/Interstar Chassis.

We bought a new 3.5 ton horsebox from Bloomfields built on a Nissan NV400 platform chassis in 2021. We went for the Nissan over the Renault Master as the Nissan offered a 5 year warranty and the Renault only offered 3 years. Our big mistake!!

Oh my God I wished we had gone for the Renault as on our last trip out with our mare the engine management light came on. That was enough for us not to use the box again but we needed to get it into a Nissan garage. This is where all our problems started!

We phoned the local Nissan dealer who said they couldn’t take it as their workshop wasn’t big enough to get it in. Phoned another dealer and got the same reply. One dealer told us to take it to Nissan Crawley in Sussex, we are in Kent, rather a long drive with an engine management light on! Anyway, it was booked in to go to Crawley on Tuesday 5th November. My husband decided to ring the Crawley garage as it was some considerable distance to travel with the engine management light on and he wanted to make absolutely sure they would take it only to be told their workshop wasn’t big enough!!

My husband rang Bloomfields and could not get hold of Helen Moody the owner so told the receptionist the problem and was told someone would phone back - they didn’t!!

After speaking to someone at Nissan again they said that their Southend garage Toomeys could take it but that they were fully booked until the first week of December so it is provisionally booked in for 9th December. My husband has emailed them with a picture of the box and all the measurements and asked them to confirm that it will fit in their workshop but no reply atm. If OK this seems to be the only dealership in the south east of England that can take larger NV400/Interstar vehicles.

We will be reporting Nissan to the Advertising Standards Authority as they are offering a 5 Year Warranty on their current website but are not physically able to honour that warranty!

After countless phone calls and emails and messages to both Nissan and Bloomsfields neither of them seem at all interested and we are stuck with an expensive horsebox we cannot use! 😡

I’m really sorry to hear this, not the level of service that you expect when you’ve bought a premium make of horsebox. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Not a great week publicity wise for Bloomfields, is it 😬.

Can you get it booked into a nearer motorhome dealer who will do the warranty work and bill Nissan direct? They will have the ramps necessary for a 3.5t box.

If you're able to take it to a non Nissan dealership then some 'normal' garages might be able to do it as they can do the 3.5t.

What an absolute nightmare for you, I hope you get it sorted.

And agree TP not a good week for them and wasn't it only last week that a southern dealer of theirs went in to administration?

Did Nissan know about the conversion and does that affect size? Just wondered as is it body size rather than engine size which means those garages can’tphysically take it? Does sound odd though. OH has a two point ramp at his workshop and does 3.5 horse boxes and builders vans on that safely and legally. Hope you get sorted.

Thanks for your reply and support - I need it! The trouble is the warranty work has to be done by Nissan

Thanks for your reply and support TP - I need it. The trouble is the warranty work has to be done by Nissan otherwise you invalidate the warranty. The horsebox is too big to fit into the workshop of all the Nissan dealers!! Bloomsfields are in partnership with Nissan who supply them with the chassis.

Its warranty work and has to be done by Nissan. See my reply to Tiddlypom. Thanks for your reply, Im very frustrated, horse going really well and now cant get her out!

Yes Nissan supplies the chassis to Bloomfields, they are in partnership with them. Thanks for your reply.

Bloomfields absolutely should be assisting you to get this resolved ASAP. Nissan makes the chassis and must have access to facilities to get warranty repairs done as necessary.

Are there some wires crossed with people who are more used to dealing with cars, and are applying Nissan car warranty practices (Nissan dealer only) to a 3.5t vehicle?

ETA is there a Nissan commercial vehicle section you can get hold of?

We bought a brand new Nissan Navara many years ago, it was a nightmare and we sold it after a year (engine management light/gear box and refusing to start) Everytime we took it in we got a Micra as a hire vehicle!

I would write to the chief executives of both Nissan and Bloomfield and advise them that you will be hiring a Horsebox and will be charging them all the costs, as they have been unable to fulfill the warranty. Send the letters by Royal Mail 'Signed For' service so that there is no doubt that they have received your letter.

Excellent suggestion, it worked for me with BT Openreach, very different I know but my problem was sorted on the Monday having complained the previous Thursday after 5 weeks of being bounced around

Has there been something else (other than the Southern dealership thing)?
Not named in the thread, but…

ah thank you. I have heard other things re that incident that suggest the lorry design wasn't specifically at fault, but I wasn't there personally so won't comment further.

I'm not sure Bloomfields are at fault, however I appreciate it's better if they are sympathetic and help you with Nissan if they can.

Your engine/chassis warranty is with Nissan, Bloomfields are really only responsible for the build warranty.

First thing I would do is get a local mechanic to run diagnostics on the lorry- purely diagnostics so won't invalidate your warranty but will definitely get you a step further to getting fixed.

I'm afraid I would be a nuisance to Nissan- don't accept a call back, stay on hold for however long it takes to get an answer.
My team do this sort of thing at work and you never accept a call back!
Nissan will have commercial garages which would be more appropriately sized for your horsebox and that's where they need to book you in.

If Nissan can't provide a suitable service within a reasonable distance or time, it's worth arguing that it's an unfair term to insist on only main dealers doing the work and threatening/taking it through a formal complaints process https://www.themotorombudsman.org/consumers/our-codes-of-practice/new-car-code

Be very wary of Toomey Southend, you'll be lucky to see your box before Easter. They are notorious for how slowly they repair private customer vehicles. Your first appointments is just for diagnostics, then it's another appointment at least a month later to do the work if - big if - they can get the parts...

ETA. If they insist it's got to travel, tell them that it's up to them to transport it there and back plus provide a suitable courtesy box :) You might find them more prepared to negotiate :)

Just thinking - if you're getting no where with them are you a member of BHS and could it be worth a ring to their legal helpline?
My husband is a retired lawyer but yes it may be worth a phone call at least. Just had a rather abusive post from Vicky Louise who works for Bloomsfields on the British Dressage FB forum. Several people have given her a telling off. If you read it you will see why we are getting nowhere.

Having read this on Fb too I’m sort of surprised it was thought it would ever fit in standard main dealer service centre.
Do they promise warranty provision within a certain distance?
Not within a certain distance but a 5 year warranty nevertheless.

Our contract is with Bloomfields so therefore they should sort it out.

hindsight is great but I definitely would have checked how far away my nearest commercial centre was for warranty work. They aren’t saying they won’t do it.
The thing is there does not seem to be a Nissan garage that can fit it in their work shop.

Agreed, your purchase contract was with Bloomfields.
However your warranty is with Nissan.

I'm sure if you check it, the contract will specify the chassis warranty is with Nissan- directly.
Bloomfields are not and cannot be responsible for mechanical warranties.

Out of interest, why are you so reluctant to follow the (many) posts on Facebook which supported the idea of getting local diagnostics?
Or who suggested you can keep warranty but have work done by local garages with Nissan's approval?

Also, it looks like you then turned commenting off on Facebook, when it wasn't quite getting the reaction you wanted.
