Came home to discover the top gate out of the field wide open!

The gate opens onto miles of footpaths and open hillside, so I wasn't worried about the horses getting onto a road, but I thought that I was going to be in for a long search to find them. Luckily the boys reappeared when they heard my truck, but I now have a field full of sheep that don't belong there.

Even if the walkers wanted to get across the field to the bottom track, there was no reason to leave the gate open!

Fill in an Access Issue Form, available from your local council Access Officer. And ask the council to foot the bill for a self closing gate, that's what they've put in here, and they covered the cost.

There isn't a footpath across the field, so I don't think that the council would pay for a replacement gate. I'm just guessing that the walkers were trying to find a shortcut.
