As Beua can be a ruffian in the field I decided to try a hood to stop him getting any more marks on his neck - last year he was covered in marks from fighting!

Well..............thought he could wear it in the stable to get used ot it. Put it on like th epic showed, and it didnt come with anything to fasted to anything so I STUPIDLY thought that was how it was meant to be (yes tehre was a loop but it was right in the middle of his back - so what uise was it?!)

Well this morning the girl who turns him out found him being practically strangled by it and freakin out, which was made worse by the static that had built up so every time she touched him he got a shock, and he ended up not wanting her to go near him. I know its the hood that really distressed him as puttin git on he would happily stand with it over his eyes (I'm a short ar%e) unti lI pulled it back.

Poor boy!!! I am NEVER EVER EVER using one of those again!! Just peed off I paid £15 for it to find out it sucks! No tto mention that I actually ordered a WEATHERBEETA one and got a ROMA instead!!

Years ago I bought a lovely snuggly hood for my mare who was one of the only brown horses that could actually look blue when cold. She looked like a little Knights horse ready for a jousting tournament but also looked mightely hacked off that I was making her look like such a nerd, anyway she learnt how to hook it off her face over her ears and back on her neck within a night and made a number of holes all over it, so yes I agree - bloomin' hoods!

Well as slightly evil as this sounds I will be a bit happy when my mates horse goe to the dealers tomorrow as he is the one that does the damage. Last year his neck was a right mess, and he kept gettin gmounted by this horse and he hurt his back. Its a weird love/hate relationship they have, and now this horse is jealous as my mates new horse really likes Beau, and they really get on brilliantly.

I had a weatherbeater hood and they are pretty useless to be honest - I did stitch fastenings to mine so it could be secured with a rug but it always ended up twisted round the face covering one of her eyes. Perhaps you just get what you pay for but the weather beater is basically a lycra tube with holes and no shaping.

Because I dread early morning starts to plait up I risked buying a more expensive hood and got a shaped one which has proper vest type fastenings. Its brilliant.

I dont think they advise use in the field anyway so it wouldnt have been any good to you anyway.

Just a note - Weatherbeeta is Roma - and Roma is weatherbeeta. Weatherbeeta is just an overall brand name for several makes, Bates, Winec, Collegiate, Roma, Kincade
