So it's just over a year when i arrived at Mossburn just knowing something was up.
There were new goats everywhere, where there shouldn't have been goats, a new pony and funny noises coming from the barn.
The atmosphere was tense too.
The day before, we had rescued over 30 animals from a man who was doing unspeakable things to them. Sexually abusing them and keeping them all in some twisted love barn
Made me sick.
The worst casualties were 8 tiny calves, and two little angora goats. The vets report made hard reading for the little goats, i won't go into detail.
As for the calves, they were in a pitiful state. The decision was made to put 3 of them to sleep straight away. They had just totally given up on life and were just too weak and young.
2 of the others were put on a drip and all monitored closely over the next week.
This was them after about a month, bear in mind they were worse than this when they arrived. It's the sadness in their eyes that gets me everytime looking at this
L-R - back - blue, ambrosia, levi - front - cassius and snowflake
Over the next 6 months, it took a LOT of work and dedication from me and Mossburn's super volunteers to bring these animals back to life. All the goats and the pony found new homes. The calves had to be fed their milk twice a day, a difficult task during winter feeding 5 hungry mouths with sometimes only 2 people left on the yard by evening! Mucking out was a challenge too, with regular disinfecting to stop the various bugs they picked up from spreading.
After about 2 months they started to pick up, being let in the field and putting on weight slowly but steadily.
About August last year, Cassius and Snowflake went to a new home, soon followed by Ambrosia. But Blue and Levi, the two put on a drip, will stay with us!
Levi, so named because his tag number is 501, like the jeans
, was so distrusting of people and hated cuddle, unlike Blue who loves them!
But now they are both huge, quickly catching our full grown heiffers!
They adore cuddles and have so much life in them.
These two were the first really bad rescues that i was properly involved with and being able to help them reach where they are now is just great
Look at them now!
