Hi all ,
I am about an hours drive from Hartpury . I had planned to drive there and back each day as only competing Saturday and Sunday , but now re-evaluating if that was the right choice ?
88 to hook up lorry
38 stable overnight
7.50 shavings

I am there all aft on the sat (arriving for 1230) and will be back on the road for 6:615 the next morning to walk course for 8am class start and there all day (if I go through to the final )

I have no competing and little travel expertise to offer, but just as an outsider's take on the situation (FWIW) I would say that it completely depends on how your horse will feel about staying away. If he's likely to be very chilled about it then I'd cut yourself a break and stay over. That way you won't have such an early start and you can cross off loading, driving, parking as things to think about. But if you think staying away will result in a worried horse for any reason, then probably easier to travel each day. Personally I wouldn't want a 6.15 start to what could be a pretty long day, but then I am very lazy! Those costs don't look too dreadful to me so I'd just do what you feel will be easiest for you both. And good luck :)

Yes I would agree all depends on your horse and what commitments you have at home and whether you enjoy staying away at a show. Will you still have the stable for Sunday if you qualify as your horse can then be in it rather than on the lorry. Depends possibly what time stable is to and from though generally most places fairly relaxed on the final day as not needed for a new horse. I don't have hook up in my lorry so it would be quite a cheap stay over...can you charge up leisure batteries and just survive off those? And well done and enjoy.
