Hi, my friend says she is getting a horse from the blue cross and said that she wouldn't have to pay anything like not even feed, livery, vet, farrier, etc.

But I thought you still would have to pay everything because your having it on full loan :S

Thanks

Can't see that that would be the case but they do offer a financial help package for people that take non-ridden horses on loan.

From the Blue Cross website:

"Adopting

We do the hard work to match you with a suitable horse and ......

The Blue Cross offers a unique supported loan scheme which is offered to all non ridden companion horses and some riding horses with specific health requirements.

The scheme offers financial help to borrowers wishing to rehome an equine with ongoing health issues. For non-ridden companions, the supported loan scheme will cover the costs of an annual veterinary health check and vaccinations, routine dental care and assistance with worm control.

With some horses we may offer support with the costs off pre-existing medical conditions and farrier costs."

I adopted a lovely tb mare from the Blue Cross earlier this year. I seem to remember I paid a small fee (£30?) to cover the cost of them assessing me and travelling to the home I was giving her. I paid for her to be transported by them to my stables and also made a donation. So she wasn't exactly free, but I would rather make a decent donstion to the charity than line a dealer's pocket!

However, I do have to pay all her feed, farrier, vets etc. Perhaps they have changed the way they do it to enable them to find homes more easily and enable them to take on more horses.
