I live very close to the Blue Cross at Burford and have wondered about trying to get a horse from them. I am in the position to be looking for one and like the idea of helping a stretched horse charity as i have heard so much about horse charities struggling and being over run at the moment.
I have heard tho that the Blue Cross are very hard to rehome from and everyone i seem to hear about having tried gets turned down.
Has anyone successfully had a Blue Cross horse or pony and do you know how much the donation is and how long the process takes (roughly)

Thanks

Yes I got a beautiful little shetty from their Rolleston Centre at the end of September! From when I first went to see him till when I fetched him was only 3 weeks! They came to visit our home (we already had 4 horses at home and one of those was a shetty + 3 competition horses) to check that the facilities would be right for him. We had to pay £35 (i think) for the home visit, then £65 donation to the Blue Cross to take him on loan. He is a great little chap and even my big TB's love him and he is only 8.2hh!

My sister got a fantastic litle mare from them. She's brilliant, rehomed her as a 5 year old and I think she's going on 12 now. She's a fantastic allrounder with a lovely temperament. They came and did an assessment of the yard etc and came and checked her after 6 months and a year to make sure she was getting on ok. Can't remember what kind of donation they made for her but was negligable for such a lovely little horse.

We had one many many years ago (took on from someone else so not directly from the Blue Cross) However, they were always pretty good to deal with and would come and visit him once a year. I would certainly recommend rehoming a horse from them.

Yep we rehomed a 22 yo horse and his companion donkey. Think the horse was retired after about 4 years, then lived a happy (but eventful!) retirement until he was 36.

I think they came and did home checks every year, and our yard was and is by no means pristine. When we first got them we had literally just put the stables up and had sheep netting and barbed wire for every fence (old cattle fields). Not sure if they would be more strict nowadays, this was in 1988! :D

I had a youngster from them to keep mine company when she was a baby, they were brilliant. Came and did a home check and then brought the pony over. When it was time (2 years later) for them to take pony back for breaking and rehoming as a riding pony they were so helpful & kind.

Wouldn't hesitate to rehome from them again.

ah, excellant there is one on the site i like the look of actually already! I may pop in tomorrow and have a chat.
The problem will be my yard is a dump!
