I accidentally became the owner of a scrawny, skinny welsh D yearling. He's chucked away in the field to learn horse manners and grow steadily, but I'd like to get him out and about in the spring.

He is a beautiful golden buckskin colour, with 3 white socks...and two bright blue eyes.

I know double dilutes with blue eyes seem accepted ie cremellos but I can't find anything about buckskins.

Not that it really matters as the long term goal is for him to SJ and hunt, but I'd like to know If it's worth putting him in breed classes or not. He's entire at the moment, but will be gelded in the spring it that makes any difference.

I'd take him for learning life skills but I think it will depend on the judge. If he is as equally good as another I would expect he will get dropped below it but if he is better in all other ways:p photos!

How dare you describe such a stunning youngster and not post pics? Shame on you. :-)
I think he would need to go into mixed breed classes, part bred Welsh might be OK? I don't know the answer, really.

You will need to pick you r judges, the welsh lot can be quite traditional and some judges do frown on blue eyes!.
There is nothing to stop you taking him for the experience however

erm why? if he is purebred then he cant go in the partbred classes. The mixed breed classes are judged exactly the same as the individual breed classes and on the same criteria, normaly by the same judges.

This :)

my friend has a Welsh a his grey with blue eyes and they do lead rein mainly but he does often do Welsh or native classes and he always gets placed quite well and fairly, I think it helps as his very well behaved small kids can ride him and his safe so that does help.

I know someone with a Welsh with one blue eye and he has done quite well showing (he is a section C). Personally it freaks me out so I guess it depends if the judge feels the same way. Movement usually trumps looks in our local Welsh classes, so if he has the moves give it a go. I'm not a serious shower at all so no idea about higher levels but I see no reason why you can't take him for fun, that is what I do with mine, we go for variety and experience a couple of times a year.
