Recently a friend of mine lost her 2 year old flatboat to now confirmed blue green algae poisoning. She is normally a very private person but has asked that the report on Coves death be reported far and wide to spread awareness about this toxin. Her is a link to the veterinary report. Please read and share wherever you feel appropriate. RIP Cove

So very sad for Cove and his owners ☹️ How frightening how quickly he succumbed. Living near water it’s something I’m always on the lookout for in the warmer weather.
Thanks for sharing and raising awareness.

Sad to hear about the incident but good to spread awareness.Unfortunately with the increased warmer temperatures and low water levels were seeing over the past few years algal blooms are going to become more prevalent .
Thanks for sharing ?

Desperately sad for your friend and for such a loss of a young dog. Dont know how helpful this is, but there is a map with blue green algae records in the UK

Two confirmed and well-publicised blooms in my area are not on this map, so I'd question the accuracy of the data.
Just thought it was worth mentioning this so people don't rely on the information.

So desperately sad to read about Cove.

I work at a college and we have a huge estate which includes a lake.

We had BGA in the lake at the end of the Summer term; as part of Environmental Studies we took a sample of the water and put it under the microscope. The organism came up. Totally unmistakeable, and totally fascinating.

Haven't let my dog in any water since that.

Think it does rely on the blooms being reported- bit like the Alabama rot map, where its not always up to date
