I think he's a real sweetie. I only know of one Portuguese Water Dog, and I stupidly asked the owner if it was a Labradoodle. Learnt my lesson now

PMSL! My Mum has an Irish Water Spaniel, you can see the "Red Mist" descend when someone asks if it is a Labradoodle!!
She nearly beat someone to death with a walking stick when they refused to believe that it wasn't
They kept telling her he was a Labradoodle, and that she knew one but it was black
My Mum kept telling her IWS are only one colour - Liver - but she wouldn't have any of it

I have only ever seen one Porti in the flesh -- happened to be a Canadian Ch to boot. It was a lovely dog but it did give me an idea - I groom loads of Lab-doo's and one in particular looks so much like a Porti that I had convinced the owner to allow me to groom him like one.
That's the thing about all these 'doodles. They can look very much like purebred other dogs. Problem for ME is that they tend to cost wayyyyy more to buy than a purebred dog of quality (with all the proper genetic testing etc). I'm not anti-labradoodle - just against the breeding of them for the type of money they get and no real health checks on them!
Sorry, I strayed OT a bit. I think the Obama's dog looks to be a stunner. I'm so glad that was what they got - I'm not sure if it was their concious choice - it was a gift from Sen Kennedy. Either way, it will certainly bring that breed of dog up in to the public eye more, which the breed could use!
