Our 5th attempt at dressage today, and we have finally got our first placing and a pretty rosette for 4th place in the restricted section of Prelim 19

(not telling you how many there were in the class
tongue.gif
but it wasnt 4

)

Went back to Abbey, the venue of our first dressaging attempt. Bob desperately needs the physio

(coming out on Wednesday) so he is finding canter transitions very very hard atm, so I took loads and loads of time warming him up very slowly and gradually. Even so his canter transitions in the warm up were diabolical, cue loads of bucking/changing legs behind
crazy.gif
I nearly withdrew at this stage cos I hated that he was so uncomfortable, but he seemed to settle and relax a bit after a while so decided to continue but not to push him at all.

Prelim 10 was indoors, he did some fantastic trot (felt like it had loads of 'lift' if you know what I mean?) but was unsteady in the contact cos I wasnt using a lot of leg on him (deliberately). Some nice walk too, esp in his free walk, so got mostly 6's and 7's for those. Canter was much better than I had expected, a lovely transition into left canter (judge said his canter needed more jump) then he spooked
grin.gif
so we fluffed the transition back down to trot
grin.gif
Right canter (his weak side) was not nearly as good so we got 5's
frown.gif
Overall we got 59.09% (our highest ever result, we are very slowly creeping up
tongue.gif
) and 6's for all our collectives.

Then went outside (phew!) and did Prelim 19 - much better test overall but I didnt relax in the walk so we jogged a bit
blush.gif
(completely my fault!) and we messed up right canter HUGELY.... Finally he did a massive spook in the corner just as we were meant to do our 20m circle at V allowing him to stretch
crazy.gif
(no stretching shown, so a 5!) just before we finished. Overall we got 57.27% and came 4th

Again 6's for all our collectives...

I always feel that sooner or later we will crack it (and break that bloody 60% barrier
tongue.gif
) but I knew it wasnt going to be today because of the tension in his back. Maybe next time after the physio has sorted him
grin.gif
But another really enjoyable day, lovely to get our first rosette even if it was only 4th, I will keep trying

Thanks for reading, sorry it is so long

Stop confusing me with the name changes

Now I know what I have to aim for

Thank you jumptoit

I am getting there slowly - his last owner said that he won his last prelim test with her on 70%, so I know it is in there somewhere

Thanks scotsmare

I have just looked at my sheets again and completely forgot to admit that I forgot the test in Prelim 19 so got 2 marks deducted
blush.gif
Dont think that would have made any difference to my placing though
tongue.gif

Yay well done you!! Next time you'll break that barrier.

At least you didn't do what I did last weekend and go worng TWICE in one test - even worse it was someone else's horse - oops

P.S. Will you have to buy a new hoodie now?

I just coughed and spluttered like mad when I saw your post Jane_lou, then I realised you meant Bob's diet not mine (which kind of died a death weeks ago

)

It is still working fabulously thanks, I think once I have finished my tub of NAF Magic powder I am not going to bother with it any more (tempting fate I know...) as he is getting so much more used to competing now
smile.gif
He did lose a bit of condition when he came off the Baileys but then I realised I had got used to feeding him less of everything - so put it back up to 'normal' levels and he is fine again
smile.gif

I do keep having to tell myself he IS the same horse, he has changed in appearance and behaviour beyond all recognition from the horse I bought in October
smile.gif
So pleased
smile.gif

I am really pleased to hear that - I know I keep on about them but I do think those D&H cubes are magic! I feed at recommended levels and condition and energy is just spot on with none of the silly antics that we used to get. I think they stress off the weight when the feed is not right then we add conditioning feeds which cause more stress in certain types/breeds of horse. Good luck.

Hurrah, well done to Bob and Splotchy!

Seems like you are both progressing really nicely, hope he finds it all easier after having his back done.
