hope no-one minds, but I have posted this in pic gallery too, as wasn't sure where best suited;0))

WEll, Bobbin went to the Hunter Trial on Monday.

It was his first with me as his owner, but KatB who used to own him has hunted him a X - countried him loads....so he's very capable...even though he doesn't look like it!!:p

My friend had agreed to ride him in this one, as it's a 2'6 - 2'9 course which is *slightly* out of my comfort zone for solid fences at the moment!

We've been putting in some training over the weeks to get his fitness up, but also decided to build a mini "rustic" course in the field next to the yard. We thought it might help him out, rather than jumping in the confines of the school.
So we set up the course on the Friday , with the HT event on the Monday.

Here, Bob had spotted other horses out on the trails and was feeling very "perky"

Here's a couple of vids of them practicing in the field. We attempted making some *interesting* jumps with anything we could lay our hands on really!
...one of which was my tack storage box!!!

He ran out of it the first time, but jumped it cleanly after that..bearing in mind it's a big scary glowing white box! further on is an old oil drum, which looks miles away, but it's just my poor quality camera phone!

tack box and barrel

Another part of the "course" was made out of wings with a pallete and another with tree branches..he never even looked at them !

2 biggish jumps

We also had hay bales, upturned wheel barrows and logs on the trails, but my darn battery ran out my camera phone! He jumped well, and cleared everything nicely, bless him!!

Anyway, Monday arrived and we got to the Hunter Trial early, preparing for the Novice round at around 12pm. However a friend of a friend had been let down by her pairs partner, so bob ended up helping out. It was very strange to see a 14.2 hairy gallop round with a 16.2 Warmblood!

They both went clear on that, and he was fit and recovered well enough to go on to then do the Individual. HE went clear there too!

They were big classes, with 25 - 30 in each, and the course was apx 3 miles with 25 jumps. Luckily though, there was an optimum timed section between some fences, rather than the whole course.

so, here's a link to a couple of pics of them from the pro photographer.
They are small, but i have ordered a couple of them!

AND...they ended up coming 7th in both classes! Was very pleasantly surprised and they both did incredibly well.

so it's my turn next time!!! *EEK*

oh, and here's a couple of my instructor at the same hunter Trial from Monday, but she did the Open 3' - 3'3.
I love her horse...."George"", he's a ClydesdaleXTB, and is ridiculously strong!! she has some "slight" issues with brakes!:D
