So me and Bodey (with GinaGem and Gem) went off to our first show this evening. Well it wasn’t really a show as such it was just the local equestrian centre’s clear round (Cobham manor for those who know it).

Bodey was a bit wobbly going into the trailer to begin with but was in in less then 5 minutes. Phew, hadn’t been in since I picked him up before Christmas.

Got there and as usual at Cobham there was lots going on, tractor driving around, loads of dogs, the wandering goat. Gave him a large hay net and tacked up, so probs. So went to the warm-up (only one person in there), and decided to walk him around in hand for a few laps. Quite looky but fine. So got on and had a bit of a walk around, forward going but controllable, wasn’t to keen on the horses coming past him, but that’s just practice I think. So decided to have a bit of a trot and he went beautifully. Then stood in the middle while Gina on Gem cantered around.

So Gina went into the clear round and did three great rounds, well done Gina.

So we put all the poles of the clear round on the floor and me and Bodey walked around the clear round in-hand. I’m sure people thought we were mad but I just wanted the first experience to be as calm as possible. He didn’t like the sheep at the edge of the school but he didn’t actually spook at any off the fillers, yeah!

Then came home, no problems.

I did this tonight because I have bravely or stupidly booked me and Bodey into our first dressage test at this venue on the 2nd of June.

No photos unfortunately as the camera died and sorry it’s long but I just wanted to do my first comp report!

Ahhh well done.

I remeber CM and their wandering goat, very well

Used to compete there quite a bit and always liked their CR eves.

Did you sell your other coloured horse?

Yes we sold Blackie about a month ago, he was our deposit for Rubin, GinaGem’s new horse (she is my sister).

He has gone to a wonderful family (Mum, Dad and daughter). Perfect for him. I decided to get Bodey as opposed to keeping Blackie because Bodey is just that more naturally forward going and that’s what I wanted.

Thanks, at least it was just the wandering goat this evening (god knows how they don’t loose it), and not the sheep as well which we have had before at CM.

Good for you and nice for him to have a good experience - there is a lot to take on board there for a baby!

Yes there was a lot to look at but my instructor is quite keen for us to get out and see things so that when we do actually start competing it won’t be as exciting or nerve racking for him.
It was the best for us to go as it’s only about 15 minutes away, so a nice short trip for the first time out.

Thanks

Sounds a really sensible thing to do to get him used to going out, in a nice no-stress way. Better than your first trip out being for a competition when you might be a bit wound up too!
Well done.

OOOO i might come down and meet you at dressage ( is that a friday or saturday? )

Thats an excellent achievement for you both- well done you and well done to lil bodey!.

As you know im a regular at cobham manor and i know how bright the fences are there so that was really excellent.

Ahhhh yest the wondering goat....mmm..... peli doesnt do goats and got the shock of her life when it decided to follow her over the practice fence once much to her horror.

I found it quite funny as the goat app made a nice shape over the fence so an onlooker told me hehehehe.

I miss competing but if you dont mind me coming along to met you both ( fully understand if you dont want me to- nerves etc and all ) may come and say hello.
