Hi all,

I'm moving temporarily to Australia soon where of course I hope to do riding :). My question is, does anybody know if I could potentially damage the protection of my body protector if I tried to take it with me in my suitcase? i.e. would it getting knocked about etc in my luggage damage it?
I'm happy to buy riding gear out there if it is a better option.

Also, I read somewhere that ideally body protectors should be replaced every few years, is this really necessary?!

Thanks if anyone can help!

I guess it depends what it is made of as to whether it would be damaged but I would have thought it should be fine if it is the thick stiff foam sort...layered with clothes around it and in a stiff type suitcase that will not be bashed.
They do recommend replacing after so many years yes, I have had mine for about 5 years now and should really review it and get another as I wear mine everytime I ride. The trouble is that they wear well and still look good but the foam they are made of inside degrades over time and could potentially loose its effectiveness an rigidity.

Put it towards the top of your luggage and when you arrive go to the declare desk before you go through customs. They will probably want to spray it because of the contact with animals, and in any case, when you're dealing with Australian customs, it's always best to check. If you are taking your boots they will want to spray them as well, in case there is any dirt hanging about on them. It's not a big deal, I do it every time I go out there, and it is quite a good way of getting through more quickly.

Fantastic, thanks so much for all your help. And also for the situation at customs; that hadn't crossed my mind and I am very grateful for your input! (I will certainly bear that in mind as I know how strict they can be).

That's interesting about replacing body protectors. I wonder if it effects the situation in regards to how often you wear it?
