Body Protector recommendations?

I am thinking of investing in a body protector - have never ridden in one before in all the years I have been riding - but am thinking it might be a good thing to do as accidents happen and I am not as young as I used to be!

so, does anyone have any recommendations? I ideally want something that isn't bulky and uncomfortable, ideally small and light - nothing horrendously expensive either.

any advice welcome - thankies!

i'm waiting for the airowear outlyne to come out in May before deciding. Lots of peeps here recommend the rodney powell, but I wasn't sure about the fit for me. Will compare them altogther in May.

The best one I've seen is the Racesafe RS2000. It is light, cool and very flexible, unlike some of the "Robocop" ones, but it is NOT cheap. If / when I get a BP, it will probably be a RS2000, because they seem to be the least restrictive, and I can't see the point of having one if it restricts you - surely that would make any fall worse.

I have one of those and i love it, as you said it very flexible. Yes they are expensive but i want to feel comfortable when i XC and not worrying about my body protector i all most forget i have it on, so worth very penny to me.

Sadly the best in comfort in body protectors tend to be the highest priced!!! It also very much depends upon your body shape! Ladies with a large bust will be most uncomfortable in a flat fronted body protector with only one side adjustment. The Air o wear zippa and the outlyne (i'm sure there are more) have shape to the front and have a chest and waist adjustment to accomodate such figures. People with large waists and less chest (male and female) will find the opposite problem. So in answer to your question - the most comfortable for you will be one that fits correctly and is of a more flexible foam (more expensive)! Your probably best to got to a large saddlery outlet and be professionally fitted. Then you could maybe try ebay as they don't become damaged by an impact as a hat would!

I've got a Just Toggs, in black, kinda goes with any colors I think, had a bit of a phobia with BP's as my last one was a pain in the butt to wear but this one, forget I've got it on. The price is at the lower end, plus.....this is a bit naughty I know but if your a size 8/10....practically flat chested (sorry how bad does that sound) quite small shoulders, you can fit into a children's XL and get one a bit cheaper!....however make sure you do have it fitted by an approved personage, I'm not in anyway advising anyone to squeeze into something that does not fit and is not going to offer you the safe protection you need....but its worth knowing if you are a little adult.

So it is better to go and get fitted then? hmmm, shall have to find my nearest big saddlery. I am a size twelve and not particularly large chested (34D) so will bear that in mind when looking!

Well unless you've had one before and your quite clued up with how they should fit then its up to you, usually good tack shops have someone specifically trained to fit hats and body protectors and its for free! so yes I'd recommend it if you can. You can always get try and few, get measured properly and buy one from another retailer if there is a difference in price etc.

I agree with Kenzo, you should definitely go to a saddlery and get someone to fit you up with a body protector. I bought mine at the Show Jumping Opening and had to try on loads because I was an awkward shape! Not only that, but I had to sit on a saddle attached to a box to make sure it fitted me correctly as well and it wasn't too long at the back. It was definitely worth seeing someone to fit me with a body protector, otherwise I will most probably have bought one that wouldn't have fitted me!

Another fan of Racesafe RS2000. Ive had 2 or 3 other BP's to compete in and this one is by far the best - least bulky, least sweaty and extremely comfy. They are a bit more pricey than some, but you do pay for what you get IMO.

had a rodney powell - good grief enough to make me hate BP's, so uncomfy. just got a racesafe rs2000 - don't even know im wearing it so i wear it quite often at home not njust for comps when they stipulate i have to which i never thought would happen! Deffo RS2000 can't believe how comfy they are you forget your wearing them.
