Body protector recommendations

I'm starting to look for a new body protector, currently I've got a Harry Hall which is about 15yrs old. Think its about time I a new one. Any recommendations???? It will be used for competing / general riding on a young horse.

I recently bought my first BP - I got an Airowear Outlyne. I love it - so light and comfy that I forget I am wearing it. I am quite curvy and lady-shaped, if you know what I mean! ;) And it is flattering for my shape.
 
I like my racesafe used in conjunction with a charles owen shoulder protection tee. Does me a treat, lots of people however aren't too keen on them. I like the freedom of movement they offer, I hate being restricted when riding.
 
The Harry Hall Legend is on sale on the Robinsons site for £45 at the moment (I'm also looking to buy one). I'd be interested to know how it compares with the Outlyne as that is probably what I'll go for but the HH is a lot cheaper!
 
Kanteq for me too.

It's a little more expensive, but doesn't have to be changed after a fall.

It does come with shoulder pads :)
 
Shoulder pads are standard with the Kanteq rather than an optional extra :)

OP, if you've got the money, there's always the p2p air jackets.
 
Not sure if BP's actually have to be changed after a fall as the protection isn't the same as that for a hat. I understand they are mainly to protect against impacts such as hitting a fence, being trod on or landing on a rock or something but I'm sure most falls aren't of this nature so who would spend £100 on a new one after every fall or am I being stupid? Is it the manufacturers or safety standard people who say that or is it a case of say it to cover against the blame and sue culture? Anyway, daughter has an Airowear Outlyne and says it is very comfortable to wear.
 
They have to be changed every 3 to 5 years, the Kanteq doesn't because of the technology.

The official recommendation is to change if you see a dent immediately after a fall.
 
Another airowear outlyne fan here! Being under 18 i have to listen to my parents and so wear it every time i'm on a horse therefore i want a comfy one and the airowear outlyne is definitely one! It's adjustable so in my case it's growing with me but i can also put it on my friends when they come up to have a go as it fits all of them, so also no worries that if you put extra pounds on around christmas time, that your BP won't fit :) It already saved my life once or at least saved my back and my ribs, its also very 'squishy' so landing on the jump doesn't hurt so much :) Its designed for women :) Hope this helps!
 
I think most BP's are made of foam - that can be thought of as bubble wrap - Each time its squashed those bubbles pop - So over time and each little fall, all your bubbles pop.

Kanteq is different stuff.

I love my Kanteq! Sooooo comfy! :D
 
I like my racesafe one :) Very free to move but I do find it a little bit bulky? Before that I had a Rodney Powell one which was also really really nice and you could get the shoulder protectors on it. But do love my Racesafe :) xx
 
Kanteq without a doubt. Comfiest body protector I've ever worn and the only one I would wear out of choice. I had a hideous fall in February which involved me hitting an arena fence rather hard, the doctors had the hospital actually ultrasounded me twice because they couldn't believe I had no internal bleeding!
 
Is the p2p air jacket the one that has the clip on the saddle and inflates when the tag is pulled? Its what some of the eventers are using now? Don't you have to have a normal body protector underneath as well?

Yes it is, and yes you do if you want to compete as it doesn't have the BS standard due to its design. There's another one on the market, used a lot in the rest of Europe and, if I remember right, is used a lot by the motorcycle lot - called Hit Air. Seems to get very good reports and is cheaper than the P2P. No idea how much annisters are, etc. though.

Yes and yes :D But if you're are not competing BE, you don't have to wear a normal bp underneath.
 
Just wanted to add I tried one of the p2p jackets. My local saddlery bought some in to see how they sold. Out of 10 they bought, 2 were sold to comp eventers, the rest to pleasure riders.

They're pretty impressive, but have an impressive price tag too :o But if you have the money, don't event and want something less restrictive, they're fab.

I've just googled the Hit Air vests, they're about £200 cheaper :eek: Looks as though they give great neck protection too and they come in flourescent yellow, great for hacking out in.
 
Depending on what you want to spend I would recommend the p2p I have one and love wearing it so comfy I think p2p are doing a hybrid version or there is the hit air one, I'm not sure not sure on the competing side with them as I don't compete but for wearing it's excellent and when inflated feels so secure.
