Hello, I posted this in the stable yard section, but perhaps it's more relevent here - sorry for duplication.

___________

Hello there - I am new to this forum, but seems like much helpful advice being passed about, which is always good.

I am in a quandry and wonder if i can solicit your opinions on a forthcoming BP purchase - have a deadline of 6th April for our first xc this year!

I am upgrading from an ancient jack ellis, which I was lucky not to be picked up on in tack inspection, but plan to try BE this year, so need to sort myself out.

I have narrowed down contenders to a racesafe or a zippa. Which would you go for and why? anybody with experience of both? and most importantly - which looks best? It'll only be used for xc.

Thanks v much.

Well i have a rodney powell but i know a lot of people who really really like racesafe body protectors and i think they allow the most freedom and mould best to the shape of your body. I dont know about zippa body protectors, never heard anything bad about them though. Though after yesterday and the hideous stories i was told about the exoskeleton body protector from woofwear i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole!

I've not heard of Zippa either. What is most important is to find a level3, buy new and try it on - get fitted by someone who has done the BETA Training. The casualty departments prefer a front zip up type because it is better for them to be able to cut off (apparently, never tried it myself).

You need to go try lots on and find the one to suit you (then buy online if you want to but do remember the poor tack shop has spent time on you)- everyone will tell you that theirs is best (which mine is! Because I have a new Kan Teq one!!!

) The big brands like the Racesafe, Charles Owen and Rodney Powell are well established, although you can buy much cheaper types like from Gallop (all do the same job). It depends on your shape, whether you want shoulder protectors, detachable tail, front zip or tabbard style and your budget.

I did lots of research into buying one!! Doesn't show does it!!

Racesafe RS2000 or
Airoware zippa sport
