I have not fell off a horse since I was 17 yrs I have just turned 59yrs. (Although there was a big gap in my riding before I started up again). I have had my horse 3yrs next Spring. We have had our full stops, back peddling, gone on knees, and trying to turn from what ever spooked her. I had not come off. She has been rested awhile only a month (liver) I had also had my back seen to.(Cortisone Injections in the spine) As my back and leg have been very painful. The injections worked I felt good. Took her out for the second time the other weekend. She spooked and off I came. Needless to say My back and leg are now hurting again. I need a body protector but cannot afford to have one fitted. Is it worth buying one that is not fitted specifically to my shape? At my age and a dodgy back this is the way forward. I only hack out now. Would like to hear from any one that has not had one tailor made

Why can't you afford to have one fitted?? The fitting is free. My opinion is if you don't have one fitted then you may as well not bother wearing one :) x

I have the ladies Aerowear Outlyne, at least I think that is the spelling! It isn't made to measure, but is quite comfy, and the velcro bits let you adjust it a fair bit.

I am only a year younger than you and I, too, mainly hack now. I wear my BP when I hack alone and I have the Aerowear Outlyne too. Once you are on board you don't really notice it at all. The only time I notice it is when mounting/dismounting.

I have a Racesafe and love it, the new design is really lightweight and comfortable but yet still incredibly protective (speaking from experience!). They are easy to fit to yourself really as all measurements can be found on the websites - yet there are also options to have a shorter back etc if required, which is something I chose as I don't like them catching on the back of the saddle. I bought mine from Treehouse and they were really helpful on the phone. Would definitely recommend them!
