Can anyone help... The bp i have at the moment is a RP, purple label Beta 2000 level 3. First I thought this was ok, then reading up on the latest rules Im not so sure.

I have had it for quite a few years now so think it may need replacing anyway and would love to know which ones you recommend being the most up to date and that offer the best amount of protection for eventing (without feeling like you're wearing a suit of armour).

If your bp has the BETA 2000 level 3 purple lable, it will be allowed for BE. However if you have had your bp a long time it is probably best to get a new one. I echo the others and would get a kanteq. Imo they offer by far the best protection of any on the market, and are also very comfortable!

Kan, definitely. Amazingly comfortable, esp with the overlapping side panels that allow easy breathing without compromising protectivity. I forget to take mine off sometimes at home when I've been riding a youngster or a slightly tricky horse. Properly shaped for curves too...
I think you can still get the HHO discount if you ask nicely and mention my name (and no, i'm not on commission!)

Im going to go against the crowd and say rodney powell - love mine :) and... recently there was a comparison in eventing magazine and RP was the only one to get 5* ;)

Just to add some variation to the mix, I'd reccomend a RaceSafe! I used to hate my body protector and never wore it- might not have broken my back twice if I'd had one that fitted and was comfortable- now I have my RS, I NEVER ride without it, not even on a sedate hack and it's so comfy I often forget I'm wearing it -I've actually not realised until I've been home from the yard for an hour and suddenly thought 'I'm a bit hot...!!'

Kan :) had Rodney Powells for years and then I couldn't get one fitted properly this time so I ended up with a Kan almost by chance and if it needed to be replaced I wouldn't look at any others this time :).

Kan all the way too, great BP and great customer service which counts for a lot these days, the shops just dont have the same ind of touch.
With regards to the 'stars' thing in Eventing all a bit subjective really, I wonder if the person trying the Rodney Powell would have given it 5 stars if she had tried a Kan too!

Definitely KAN all the way. I wear mine all the time whereas the last one just gathered dust. I'm a bit cynical about the magazine tests - you need to try on a few to decide that the KAN is definitely the most comfy and safest. HAPPY RIDING!
