Ok, going cubbing on sat.

My first time ever, horses 3rd time (shes been a star so far apparently) however just for good measure I am intending on wearing my body protector.....

however, its made me about 1cm too wide to do up my tweed jacket around......... is it bad to have an open jacket if you have a body protector on?
I look like a bit of a twerp with it over the top and it sort of bunches up my jacket making it awkward to move in...........

help please?!

You need to have your jacket done up, just incase it gets caught on something. It is also tidier.
No one will mind you wearing over the top.

I thought id have to have it done up! (damn me being a huge rib caged person! :( )

Right ok, will try to see if we can work around it and get it done up! if not, guess its time to look like a plonker! (better than being bent around a gate post or something I guess though!)

I wear mine over the top, its not the prettiest, but i would rather look like a plonker and be safe ........

If you wiggle your jacket underneath after you've put it on, you'll get the freedom in it....

Have fun

I was just like you, even shelled out a load on a Kan because it looked like it might fit! It so doesn't!!

I am probably bonkers, but I concluded that one of the things I love about hunting (and only been once, and on hound exercise this year but I think I am gonna like it!!!) is the getting togged up. You and horse. I love it and I therefore ditch the BP in favour of looking cool. I will probably be slated for this but it is my choice.

I just waggle finger at horse before mounting and say "Right, you'd better look after me" and so far, he has!

i kinda think that body protectors are a bit of a wimps clothing when hunting; make sure you have all the kit, and a thermal vest, you should be pretty well protected with hat, gloves, stock, close fitting strong woollen jacket, good breeches, strong leather boots, easy out stirrups, a horse you are confident with, and some experience jumping cross country type fences, little ditches etc.
Then hunt within your capabilities, if you are nervous enough to want to wear BP, you should stay out of trouble, ask the field master if you can help with the gates, after a few days you will get braver and start to get in the swing of things
