Any advice? Thinking of buying one.Am trying to regain confidence after owning an unsuitable horse.Now have a new one and Iam improving but think that the added security may help PLUS, when I had my last fall (about 12 months ago) I landed on my back. I have a bad back at the best of times and it jambed my back up for nearly a fortnight.Thought about made to measure.Anyone know of someone in Merseyside/cheshire area thast do them? Also I have seen some short body protectors that look good at Robinsons.I am short and more to Dawn Frenches build if you know what I mean.Any sugestions welcome.

If you've got a decent budget and want one for everyday wear then maybe look at investing in one of these

I tried one on recently at a stand at some horse trials (well lady made me try one on!) and it is comfortable and the sides stretch unlike normal bodyprotectors. I didn't go for it as already have an airowear 2000 (or whatever it is) and until i feel that's had its day I will stick with it as wear one for XC anyway.

If you want to wear if more regularly then you want one that's comfortable to wear for long periods and I would say the kan teq one is - I am going to wait til they drop the prices though! hehe

I bought a Racesafe RS2000 off the internet after following the measuring instructions. It fits very well, they come in a variety of sizes - mine is the extra large. It's like wearing a bulky quilted waistcoat, but it's comfy enough and doesn't catch on the cantle all the time.

I just got a Rodney Powell one and it is so comfortable! I wore it for the first time doing XC a few weeks ago and didn't even feel like I had it on. It was very comfortable.

I ordered it from a company called Dragonfly Tack (online) and they were very helpful with measuring. I also ordered it in my own colours and it took only 2 weeks to come through!

The best way is to go and try them on!! They come in lots of different size variations now so you will be able to get one that fits properly. The back length is really important to get right so it doesn't hit the cantle as some one else has said - the way to test it when you have one on is to sit on the floor - if it touches the floor it will touch the cantle. I now have an airowear one which is designed with women and their figures in mind - is very comfy and don't know I have it on. My previous one was a Rodney Powell - wasn't as comfy but it was bought 9 years ago and they have changed the design and fit a lot in that time.

Go and try them on - make a note of size etc and buy online afterwards if you can find it cheaper BUT make sure it fits you properly first.

I went to our local tack shop and after trying retty much every single one on, I found a second hand bp which is (albeit a bit bulky) very comfortable, and once it's on I hardly even notice I'm wearing it. I would definitely say go to your local tack shop and have a play!

Thanks. Personal recommendations are always worth a lot.

I actually went for the RaceSafe after it was recommended on here for the fuller figured lady LOL I do get hot under it but I don't notice it until I take it off!

Another vote for the Racesafe one. as body protectors go they are mega comfy, you can still move in them, and unlike my old air-o-wear one i dont look like ive been shoved into a toaster when wearing it!
def worth the money imo
