Does anyone have one or have any experience of them as a breed please?

Would be interested to hear any info.

Thank you

They are of Mastiff origin I think and have been crossed over the years. My OH is South African and they are very common there, particularly as guard dogs. His parents had one which was fine (though a bit stubborn) but they can be very headstrong and need a lot of training as they can be quite a handful. As I said my OH's parents one was fine but if he wanted to go somewhere or do something that was that - he'd do it!!

That's really all I know about them and like CaveCanem said I don't think they are very common in this country.

i think you are both right, I have been speaking to one of the breeders and doing a bit of research and I'm sure I read somewhere that there are only 80 in the country which have been fully approved by their grading board (not sure if it's true though).

I have read the posts on here but wanted to speak to someone for a bit more info, as to view some of the better bred ones I need to travel to North Yorkshire from Devon so I was hoping to get a bit more info before I make the long trip. Although I would only be going to 'look' and do a bit more research the probability of coming back with one is high if I do go so I want to be sure!

I have rotties at the moment and according to my South African vet there isn't a lot of difference with regards to training, general disposition etc so I think I would be able to cope with the type of dog they are.
