Bog burned feather

My youngster has feather which has been fine until this last Winter where it has been so wet that from the pastern down he's lost quite a lot Now that the fields are drying out, or so I thought or hoped, where do I go from here?! Behind his knee is quite voluminous then it goes to very little. What on earth do I do with this? I've thought about thinning it behind the knee to balance it out a bit or is that a big no-no? I have a specific spray for feather that I'm using to keep it conditioned, I just need growth! I'm conscious that we're moving yards very soon so would like to make him presentable not that it entirely matters but it would be nice just to sort him out a bit.

I would thin it personally, to get the feather more even in appearance. But then my horse is sporting a piteous excuse for a clip at the moment, so my opinion might be a bit dubious.

It will shed around this time like the rest of his coat, so hopefully will look better soon.

I clip feather away. Easier to look for emerging cpl treat for mites or just keep tidy.
