Boiled linseed is fed as a conditioner and it also makes the coat wonderfully shiny. It was traditionally fed with boiled barley. Nowadays there is ready-to-use linseed available from places like www.simplesystem.co.uk or www.sciencesupplements.co.uk as well as Thorogood feeds. If you continue to use it make sure you don't get the whole linseed muddled up with the ready-ro-use kind.

You must bring it to the boil not just simmer it as it can be poisonous if you don't ,then simmer for about an 30 mins until it is like jelly. You need to keep an eye on it as it may need more water adding. It is usually fed once a week

You shouldnt keep it once it is cooked so half a cupful is plenty each time you cook it. What I am trying to say is you cant cook up loads and keep it for the week! You have to cook it and use it that day. I used to cook it on the aga and use it for morning and evening feeds. Any that was left was binned as I was told it goes off quickly. But I may be wrong- it was a long time ago and if anyone knows any different I would love to know!!
