2 weeks ago, my 17hh cleveland bay x thouroughbred mare had a bad kick in the field, with quite a deep cut and lots of swelling. I got the vet out and was given a course of anitiotics for her and was told to hose and clean the wound twice daily, apply silver spray and walk her in hand. The wound has been healing quite well it seemed, but she was still lame. So I took her into the clinic to get it checked out, and it turns out she has a localised bone infection and she is having surgery tomorrow. I was just wondering, has anyone had any experience with this? The vet said recovery would be 6-12 weeks, but if anyone has any experience with this kind of injury I'd find it really helpful/interesting to know a bit more!

My. Mare had bone infection. Septic pedal osteitis . She was put on Norodine. And baytril. X 2 courses. This halted the infection which I thought was impossible by all feedback only surgery could cure

Your vets must think this is necessary. My mare did have. Fractured splint none and had surgery and healed well with my nursing. Good luck with your horse.
