My 17.1hh 6yr old IDxWB mare has today been diagnosed with an 'Osseous cyst-like bone lesion in the tibia/hock region'. She is under the excellent care of Sue Dyson at the AHT in Newmarket, who I know to be the BEST there is, but I wondered if anyone on HHO has experience of this condition as an owner?

I understand that whilst surgery may be possible, the type she has is rare, the lesion would be hard to get to,that bone grafts would be harvested to fill the void, that hospitalisation and then extended box rest would be necessary, and that she might not do much if any ridden work.

Specialist is now away until Monday and I have now thought of all sorts of questions to ask, typical!

Anyone have any experience of this condition? I am pragmatic and wish to hear anything, even if it is negative. I lost my first mare through a severely damaged suspensory ligament, my second mare is now a broodmare as at 7yrs was diagnosed with a heart problem, and this mare is my third. Who says things don't come in threes, eh?

Look forward to hearing from you and thanks in advance for any advice.
