Can anyone tell me what sort of price they have paid for a bone scan with no insurance (or at least not used it). I've had one done on the insurance, but due to that fact the vets charged silly money (everything goes up in price with insurance!).

don't overly want to get insurance involved as I'm not exactly sure what we are going to find (or what we are really even looking for) and it's more a picture of how things currently stand rather than looking for a specific problem.

please pm if you prefer!

It depends on how many parts of the body you want done and where you are in the country as prices do vary. Why not call all the large vet centres near you, they should be able to give you a quote there and then on the phone? Make sure it includes VAT, hospital fees and any other incidentals.

To be honest, if you have insurance you might as well try and use it as you will have to declare it at your next renewal whether you claim or not!

This , whether you claim or not it will still affect your policy and the vets are duty-bound to disclose it I believe, so you may as well put a claim in.

Phone around and barter. Also account for any drugs and stabling fees.
I got a whole body done inclusive of sundries for just under 1.1k 18 months ago.

Vets aren't legally allowed to charge more if the costs are to be claimed back on insurance. However they will often offer discounts for non-insured clients. Ring up and ask.

I've recently called round for quotes (something else so not relevant) they were all really helpful and obviously used to people checking in advance on costs like you would ordering most things really.

Insurance will find out anyway so you've nothing to loose by using what you've paid for
