Hello

Please can any of you tell me what a bone spavin is.
What problems they cause, i mentioned my vet saying my mare had these as well in her hock.

Many thanks

Bone spavins are degenerative changes in the hock area, quite common in the lower hock joint, can cause lameness while the two bones fuse. Get you vet to explain properly, it what you pay him for.

as said above. its a form of arthritis. offten its found in both hocks so lamness may get hidden, lamness is usually more noticable on a circle they have a dislike/difficulty in going up and down hills. a toe drag/clip may also be herd at trot. vet may use flexion tests in helping with diagnosis a though theses are not accurate as also flex stifle and fetlock. nerve blocks are also used. full diagnosis can only usually be made by xray and prognosis and treatment will depend on changes shown. hope that helps
