Hi all, was hoping those with experience of bone spavins might be able to share the success or failure of the various treatments including the bone fusing surgery? Thanks so much
Fairly new to forum [well just come back after a few years] my experience has been some good and some bad. My first cob got it bad in both hind legs and was so bad she was PTS. My second cob got the same at 16 and was injected and that kept her sound for two years until she went lame again, she was injected again and was really bad and i kept her for a year until she was unable to walk and was PTS. It all depends where the spavin is some horses only need a couple of sachets of bute every week, some go sound when the bones fuse, some go sound for a long time on the injections. You get a better prognosis once the area has been identified. But what you musnt do is lose hope most are ok with the proper management i was just plain unlucky.
Thank you so much! It's a prelim diagnosis pending X-rays in a couple of weeks. 13 year old show jumper having a much quiter life with me, but now lame bilaterally behind and v sore in his sacroiliac region. Seriously thinking about the surgery option
