Would you buy a 6 year old who is jumping fox hunters and evented as a 5 year old upto 100 with a bone spavin? It is under 10k.
It developed it at the start of this year but isn't lame.

No, there are enough around without early arthritic changes so very unlikely I would want to start with a known issue that will probably mean a lot of insurance exclusions, it may not be lame now but presumably was when diagnosed.

Thanks, would you view be different if it was 100% fused?

I would not rule it out but wouldexpect the price to reflect this. Also you state "a" bone spavin I would be suspicious if it only affected one hind leg. I have one with two, they have fused and have adjusted his diet. He has not had medication and worked through the fusing process on the advice of two vets. he needs a very good farrier and hoof balance is vital. He is showjumping and I am told that there shouldbe no further problems. However I would be more concerned in a young horse. I do not expect mine to make old bones in work , hopefully he will, and have others so if he needs to be retired early then so be it. he also needs working nearly every day to keep him fit so there is less strain on his legs and all year turnout for the same reason. he was not overworked as a youngster and has no other problems. Also has a massive jump so is working well within himself. hope that helps. I know of many that have stayed sound for the rest of their life and others that have not so it is a risk.

No I wouldn't. At the age of six if its been eventing and showjumping at that height its already had a lot of mileage on the clock and the spavin is an early indicator of that. I'd leave it well alone and buy something without any problems. Having had a horse with spavin and spent thousands on him that is really sound advice.
