Hi All,

i am looking to buy a mother/daughter share in the spring and have been advised, due to my height (5ft10) and weight (too much:eek:) to look for something over 16hh, cobby/ID type. I have also been told that if i look for something that has a good amount of 'bone' then i could look at something smaller? maybe 15.2hh? ....Can someone please explain to me what this means and how it can influence the size of horse i can buy? Also if anyone has got a horse of this type i would be interested to know how tall you are etc....

Please note that my daughter, although a nervous novice, has been and is comfortable riding, bigger horses as thats all she's known :)

thank you :)

It's a measurement round the fore leg just below the knee :)

So something fine, like an Arab, will have fine legs, so a smaller amount of bone. Something bigger built, say a Shire, should have a lot of bone. Think of it as a vague guide as to how chunky the horse is (a Shire with an Arab's legs would be...interesting, and in reverse, an Arab with massive Shire legs would look ridiculous). I guess it's a bit of a rule of the thumb :)
