Just wondered what everyone else was doing with their horses tonight? Are you more vigilant when the fireworks are going off? Do you put your horses in overnight or do you leave them out?

My two ponies are out at the moment - they have a huge barn that they use as a stable which is full of haylage to keep them occupied and I'm keeping a close eye on them - if I get a whiff of them being upset I'll bring them in but they seem to be happy enough so I'd rather they were outside rather than being cooped up.

What do you do?
And what are your thoughts on bonfire night?

My girl has been out for the last few bonfire nights! I always feels it's better for them to be out so they can see what's going on and can run away if they want to than being in the stable hearing the noise and fretting as they can't see it :).

That's what I thought with the ponies - they can choose to be in or out - I used to ride H every night, including bonfire nights with fireworks going off and I used to jump but she never did - it's amazing what they put up with!

Mine are out even though its raining heavily and I normmally bring them in when wet to preserve fields. They get very upset by fireworks and I prefer for them to be able to run away in the field rather than hit a brick wall in the stable. I think if they can run, then stop and realise nothing coming to get them thats better than realising cant escape and getting more wound up. Just left plenty of hay and will have a sleepless night worrying. I think more to come sat and sun nigh then should be over with. Had lots of firewirks last night and mine were not happy but settled again once they had finished.

I think whatever routine the horse is currently in is the one which should apply on Bonfire Night. So if they are normally in I'd bring them in and if they are normally out then leave them out.

Luckily, where they live it's shooting season so it's bonfire night, day and night if you get my drift.

Mine's in, as long as he's got a haynet he doesn't care. Like tallyho!, it's pheasant season at our place so there's shooting twice a week anyway, he never seems particularly bothered after bonfire night.

My boys are in as they are in at night anyway now but my Welsh pony is out as usual as she lives out 24/7.

I think the main thing to do is stick to your horse's regular routine and try and act as if nothing is wrong. If you start treating them differently, they will wonder what is wrong.

My girl is usually out but this year she is in. She's on a strict diet so is only allowed limited grazing and is then stabled overnight :) As I type I can hear fireworks, hope she's ok.

Well we've had to bring out two in - I guess it's the benefit of living on site but they were so stressed out as a big display was going off overhead - they were ok with the distant stuff but when it was directly overhead they panicked - Both tucked up in their stables now - thank heavens for double glazing! ;)
