Anyone up to anything?

I have the last dressage league on Sunday and I’m actually very excited. Since it’s the last one there’s dressage to music too so I’ve gotten a new test made up for that. It should be a lot of fun.

had our first lot of fireworks last night. Old Peg couldn’t care less. Tali was fine outside but she was a bit worked up when I got her inside. But it’s only her 3rd night in since may. I left her to it as I think me being there works her up more. She must’ve settled as all was quiet when I nipped out later on and she had lay down last night. But I will leave them out later on Saturday I think.

have a good weekend everyone and hope horse and owners stay safe.

I've been away for the last two weekends so I'm looking forward to being home and riding (albeit missing the Spanish sunshine of last weekend!). I have a lesson tomorrow, our first with our usual trainer in a couple of months so I'm hoping she spots some positive progress. Chilli's now loving medium trot having had three sessions working on it...to the extent that he nearly ran off with me in medium trot on our hack today ?

Probably some hacking on Sunday, and I'll drag Indio in for a plod and some hoof care over the weekend too. Two months into his near-retirement and he's looking fluffy, muddy and generally feral!

A very quiet one for me as have just returned from a week's riding holiday in Argentina... looking forward to seeing my boys again, but don't think I've got the energy to do very much other than pootle about!

The riding holiday sounds exciting!! What was it like?

Fabulous. A few days riding morning and evening loops from the Estancia, and then a three day 60 mile ride with two horses apiece - and the unridden ones being herded loose with the ride. Extremely obedient and fit Criollos (and I also picked one Percheron, because he was a dude) - great experience. And my novicey OH also completed the ride on two super horses who were forward but very safe.

Wow, that does sound amazing (and exhausting!). How’s your OH feeling..?

Was supposed to be at a dressage competition with Miss Pony, but the last 3-4 I have entered have all been cancelled due to torrential rain...

Feel like Australia is a broken record for disasters at the moment, but there is serious flooding happening and it looks like most regional hay crops have been completely destroyed. Not only affecting crops, pretty much all outdoor riding arenas have had their surfaces washed away. The picture attached below is one my hay supplier put up :(

Onto less depressing news. It hasn't rained for a whole two days so I have been riding heaps. Because of unusable riding areas, lots of clinic outings which is nice for the 4 year old. Next one on Monday and then next weekend as well. Also bringing my TB back under saddle and she feels stronger than she did last time I tried so I am hopeful we can build up some muscle and crack on a bit (99% walk at the moment!). Picture below because I love her face :D

Hope everyone has a nice, dry weekend!

Gosh Northern, that weather looks awful. Poor people picking up from that.
marigold I couldn’t like your post as that is a pants situation- hope you get all the seeds.
Good luck BM…

I’ve got riding club dressage on Sunday, as long as it stays dry (arena can flood). Other than that we’re continuing to enjoy our new yard.

And I'm not going....
Not just because it's tipping down ..... B fine, my brain elsewhere today.
So have swept out both parking stables and hay barn, to work up appetite for bacon sarnie.

hope your sweeping has helped. Physical work always helps me when I’m having a moment. Had a bit of a wobbler earlier in the week but thankfully gotten past it. Enjoy your sandwich. And take care of yourself.

Hope the tidying and bacon sarnie helps you feel a bit better TFF.

After a month of box rest with just some in hand walking the last 2 weeks my plan this weekend was to get back on and hack Arts out in walk before some turnout in an attempt to encourage calmness in the field. So this morning I had this view for the first time in a month, and boy it felt good

She was wonderful and completely chilled to hack. It was actually lucky I was on her as we encountered the small man with the big dog that launched itself at us and Arty just hopped out of the way of it and then stood steady, whereas the pony would have probably scuttled and slipped on the steep hill we were on at the time.

However it didn't seem to take the edge off her much. She has careered around the field in her usual fashion ?. Hey ho, we couldn't find an injury with scanning and she wasn't lame so if the swelling is back after today then maybe it will give us something to go on. Desperately want her to be ok.

Meanwhile shall just keep working on Pebbles' schooling. Have booked us in for another comp next weekend ?. This week she has even been spending her field time watching Arty's in hand sessions:

Sounds like there’s a lot of rain back home, and wow northern that sounds really bad. I’m in the US on holiday and the weather is lovely, chilly at night but 21 during the day (California).

RF which Estancia did you go to? My novice OH and I went to Los Potreros a few years back. It was awesome. Some horsey friends are off there this week !

I am not missing the miserable English weather! Having a lazy morning in bed at the moment and going for a hike later. And will ride. Pretty sure the guys at the barn think I’m nuts for being there twice a day but I still have this ridiculous guilt for having shipped Bog across the world (even though he’s fine and looks a million dollars) and feel I need to be around as much as poss!

I also kinda like mucking out. So basically paying huge amounts of money to do it all myself anyway?

Great lesson on Chilli today. Having been very well behaved recently he naturally has to show me up with some ridiculous bouncing and humping ? but settled down to work on a more active and engaged trot, then a quick look at the canter. I felt that my position was creating some tension so we worked on keeping my bum properly in the saddle and educating him about seat aids.

I’m now at home watching the Breeder’s Cup and clearly that time of the month is approaching, I got very weepy hearing the story of Cody’s Wish!

Fin had a two good hacks Friday and Saturday but I am giving him the day off. He'll have been up all night feeling stressed due to the fireworks.

Hermosa has settled beautifully. She'll go on an in hand wander today. She lived next to a paintball range at her last yard, plus she's from Barrhead, so she could not care less about things that go bang.

A weekend at home for us, catching up on life!
Up ladders doing guttering on the house and then took the ladders to the field to free our oak trees from the bloody Ivy.
Before I bought this house I thought mistletoe and ivy were pretty things- I now hate them with a vengeance!

Then some good training today with some bounces and turning lines, working on quicker feet from him and sitting quieter for me.

Jump lesson yest - skinny practice! I hate ditches more, but still, yuck…. He was awesome! Really bright about it all and his confidence is growing. Lots of ‘first’ questions for him and we only had one sloppy run out which was - surprise - entirely my fault!

Improved loads since where we were at this time last year, actually improving our technical ability rather than just winging it.

Quick hack first thing which he enjoyed too.

Dressage was fun today. Tali was a bit high and decided the spooky corner of the arena we haven’t found spooky for months was back to being scary. But I’m not really bothered as I have really wound down how much I’m riding. We did an alright test, not our best, and ended up coming 2nd in the league for intro. I must admit I’ve enjoyed dressage much more than I thought I would.

The music test was a bit crazy. There were spectators which usually aren’t there and music and that damn spooky corner. We absolutely pelted around the first trot section (although did a lovely trot to halt salute and hit it square) but what did I expect when I entered her to Bon Jovi It’s my life. ? We were super early for my transition to walk but I somehow in my panic extended my walk and made it work. The judge liked my walk music to Barbie Girl and it matched her back legs beat which is a bit funny as I only put it in as people call Tali the Barbie horse ? Finished off to Living on a prayer and got another square halt. I should’ve ridden better and slowed her down at the start but I was concentrating on remembering my test and riding and that’s as much as my brain could handle. It was a lot of fun so that’s the main thing. Definitely give it a go again but hopefully have more time to practice.
