Hi all,

I’ve searched the forums but was wondering if anyone could reccomend any books that cover the basics of horse care, horse tack, riding etc? A few seemed to reccomend the pony club book but others said this was somewhat out of date.

Thanks in advance!

The most recent edition was 2013 - so not too far out of date. You could try the BHS complete horsemaship series designed to complement the stages. That looks like the publication date was 2017 - but whether the content updated from the previous or they just rebadged it to match the new syllabus I'm not sure (I only have the older ones)

These days books tend to either be very basic (think christmas gift to pony mad 6 year old..) or more technical and specific. The internet seems to have taken over from that middle of the road solid beginner book.

Hi all, to resurrect this thread - I've been searching online for good internet resources for beginner adults but either get stuck just watching Piggy French and co. cross countrying or find myself accidentally on tween / teenagers posting their riding on YouTube.

Do you have any recommendations of the best online learning resources for a beginner adult or is watching the pro's taking part in dressage / cross country the way to go?

Thanks! (Lessons are so expensive it would be great to be able to learn outside of them as well as in them).
