My 2 year old colt is booked in for castration on Wednesday. His bits & bobs have been on show all summer, but as soon as I have mentioned him having the chop, he has sucked them back in!

Will they come out when he has a bit of sedation, or do I need to cancel the vet?

I am hoping it is just the chilly mornings which have made them hide.....

I assume you mean his testicles - I believe they cannot go back up once they have decended. Are you sure? I mean, were they down before - did you actually feel them?

Sorry, I have no idea about your colt's bits but can I just say that is one of my favourite thread titles ever! Only on H & H, eh?

Good luck with his op, by the way.

Ha I know it is quite funny, but I hadn't even told him. I just said he was going to have a day out to the vets. I think one of the other geldings must have said something!

They seriously have gone back up. I don't need to feel them, they have been like two big ol' danglers for months now. I went to have a quick peek this morning, and gone! He looks like a gelding under there. I just thought maybe the chilly weather had made them hide....I hope I don't get to the vets and they make me take him home!

Rainbowrider,, no worries. When we lived on the stud the stallions were quite adept to hiding their bits! Especially when it got a bit cooler or they were tense. The same with the yearling colts that were in for sales prep. They would tuck them up when being lunged in preparation for wind testing.

A lot of the colts I work with will tuck them up when being washed off if you hose around that area because of the cold water, they soon drop them back down again :) I'd say it's just because of the cold weather, when they tuck them up they are warmer than when they are down because they're closer to their body, so he's probably just stopping them getting chilly :D

Oh good, thanks. So I'll tell him tonight...there's no point tucking them up and looking innocent...they are coming off!

Bit of a shame 'coz he is lovely, but I'd rather have a brilliant gelding than a good stallion x
