Hey there. I am viewing a filly tomorrow, who is gorgeous and fingers crossEd everything will go well. But I want everything to be in place before I get too ahead of myself. Soooo wonderful people do you have any books to recommend or any websites that could be helpful? Or any useful tips and advice?

I'm excited!!!

I had my horsey catolouge next to me, so I thought I'd have a look at the books in the back for you :) anyway, I found 'Basic Training of the Young Horse' which looks good, but I haven't read it myself so I wouldn't know for sure, but someone said to me that 'From Foal to Full Grown' was very good with her mare who she'd had sice she was only little :) Hope that was useful :D

I recently just got my weanling filly and although I have experience in backing and bringing on youngsters this was my first dive into proper babies!

I purchased 'training your foal: raising a foal from birth to backing' by Renate Ettle and found it very helpful as although a lot of it is very common sense it mentioned little things which i hadn't thought of or different approaches to take.

I have had my filly just over 2 weeks now and I couldnt have asked for things to have gone better so good luck!

How did you get on with the filly - hope it went well.

I have a 6 month old had had some books recommended

No Fear, No Force by Sarah Weston - nice book easy to read but i found what i needed was something more to go back to again and again and perhaps this a little time limited (will probably have to eat my words and return to basics and reread again) (16.00 off intelligent horsemanship website)

Now have Birth to Backing - Richard Maxwell - really like this book but still looking for something with more complete information (8.00 off Amazon)

Good luck, hope that helps x x

Another vote for Richard Maxwells 'From Birth to Backing'. Not particularly in depth, but it has been helpful with my young man. x
