As I'm having problems with handling horse on ground I'm looking along with getting instructor to help to buy a book on handling/groundwork. Not really looking for monty Roberts type and noticed susan mcbane's - any reviews or others you rate xx

I find the Michael Peace books really useful and informative. His techniques are not dissimilar to that of Monty Roberts but they are much easier to put into practise and use in everyday situations. :)

Perfect Manners by Kelly Marks is good. Have just moved yards and my horse is pushing it a bit, my instructor has just loaned me Groundwork Training for your horse by Lesley Bayley, has sections by lots of different people i.e. TTEAM, Michael Peace etc.

I have a great book called 101 horsemanship exercises - half of them are riding exercises, half are groundwork

I have had great success with some of the more basic exercises with my bolshy young colt

Another vote for Kelly Marks - Perfect Manners, and also Richard Maxwell - Train Your Young Horse, covers quite a bit of groundwork as well.

Try:
Twisted Truths of Modern Dressage - Phillipe Karl or Schooling Horses In-Hand by Richard Hinrichs.
Both of them have DVD's to back them up.
Have a look on the Classical Riding Club website for a classical trainer.
