Anyone got any advice on the best vitamin etc to give to Star to increase her immune system???

Since having Ron who is now nearly 6 weeks old

Stars immune system is very low resulting in her reacting to things she wouldnt normally i.e nettle rash (she went very stange after getting stung all over like laying down then walking backwards), mud fever etc. The vet said its mainly due to lactating and everything is going to Ron instead...so what would be best to give her just to boost her up a bit?

Thanks
Becky

What are you feeding her at present?

Sounds like she isn't getting her vit & mineral rations if shes not 100%.

I feed mine TopSpec balancer - to pregnant, lactating, growing or working horses. Its fantastic stuff. Yes its expensive per bag, but as you only feed 100g per 100kg itspretty economical. Call TS, they will probably reccomend150g per 100kg for a lactating mare

She is getting just under half a scoop of stud mix and chaff each, 2 meals a day....i'm trying to be careful of not over feeding her as she is a VERRYY good doer and gets fat on fresh air lol...

Just wondered if any vitamins to add to dinners would be good or maybe then a different mix now foaly is born?

I would put her on a balancer instead of the stud mix. The balancers are designed more for horses that are good doers and as such will provide her with everything she needs without the fact whereas I imagine feeding just 1/2 a scoop of stud mix will not be enough for her body size and the lactation, etc.

EventRider took the words out of my mouth!! I'd have her on a balancer & Alfa A, over stud mix & any other type of chaff.

Right been to feed store and on advice from them; now have a different mare/foal balencer mix for Star and also some Propell Plus for her immune system and a pick me up

Plus some creeping pellets for little Ron instead of him trying to knick his mums food all the time....

I was going to suggest Propell plus i put my broodies on it after we had all that hot weather and i thought they needed a pick me up.
Worked really well and it has echinacea in it to boost the immune system
