I have gone through many pairs of jodphur/work boots in my career with horses and have yet to find 'the one'.
So far the best have been blundstones or mountain horse but both only lasted about 6 months, have tried ariats(4 months max before falling apart)
by the end of the winter i resort to riding in hunters or dubarrys but I just want to find a tough everyday smartish..(smart enough to wear during posh dressage lessons)boot that will go under chaps and last the winter!!!
Has anyone found their perfect match boot?!
Also on a slightly different note i need new competition boots have had brogini any new smart comfy styles out there?
would give my big toe for konigs is there a cheap version!?
Also are brown boots totally a no go for female event riders?
Sorry for the long post am avoiding work by thinking up boot dilemmas.

my perfect boot is the hunter perth jod boot. 1.5 years & still going strong. Super comfy, cushioned sole so you don't feel every stone you stand on without being bulky, and try and keep them for good, but do end up wearing them round the yard often & everyday riding and they still polish up well smart enough for shows.

I am REALLY hard on boots.

Right :
short boots : I have ariat's with the zip, last me 1yr - 18mths, everyday wear. wouldn't buy another pair of dubarry's, ever - go with the grasmere's, same price, last longer.

long boots : I have Sergio Grasso Bergamo's for eventing in [jumping] and through my support from Cavallo have been given a lovely pair of Winner Plus Long Boots which are more dressagey but lovely all the same [i use them for my dr]. I have to say the Bergamo's I spent all season saving up for!!

shortboots - can't beat the ariats with zips

longboots-frogpool have a few cavallo and sergiolongboots on sale but would depend what sizes are available

personally i have my eye on some sergio grasso 12500 sanremo boots - but will have to hope that they appear in a winter sale

short boots - lace up ariat paddock boots, do me a few summers. the zip ones go wrong within a month or two for me, very annoying.
long boots - Grasmeres, bliss for feet, very hardwearing, as comfy as slippers, totally toasty in winter and somehow manage to be cool on hot days in summer and autumn, how do they do that? no going back to anything else, worth every penny.
for best: brown boots look lovely, Baydale has some that look fab.
i can't even remember what make my longboots are, but i prefer the fit of the zip-up-the-back ones.

wouldn't buy Ariat zip up short boots, the zip on my right boot broke within 6 weeks, go a replacement then the zip of left boot went about 6 months after this. Was very annoying

Used to buy Ariats but find they go on the creases by the toes, think the amonia of horse wee when mucking out also rots the stitches but cannot be bothered to keep changing foot wear so they always wore out pretty quick.

Short boots - these - http://www.horsemasters.co.uk/collection/footwear/short_boots_leggings.aspx in brown v hardwearing, and although not steel toe cap, have a hard mouled front which saved me from a bruised toe when trod on!

Long boots - these - http://www.horsemasters.co.uk/collection/footwear/long_boots_spring_09.aspx Richmond high rider, lovelt soft leather and zip at back means fits like a glove

I have Ariat Bromont long boots and they are fantastic, I never use my Broginis anymore. I never, ever muck out in them though, I use paddock boots to do everything and just change into my Bromonts for riding - they are well over a year old now, used pretty much on a daily basis, I compete and hunt in them so they get abused and they are still in phenomenally good condition

My long boots are the Ariat Women's Challenge II. They are incredibly comfortable, and fit snugly, as opposed to tightly, around the calf.

My short boots are Ariat Cobalt, but I don't like the fit half as much.

I love ariats! For yard boots I had ariat ropers (the proper boots not the ones that look chunky with rubber soles) that lasted 5yrs in all conditions from 45degreeC heat in Oz (so hot it shrunk them and I had to stretch them back in the creek) and the freezing damp scottish winters. I also have grasmeres and had glaciers that lasted 2yrs of abuse and are still going somehow, although I had to replace the laces.

I have bromonts as long boots and they are the comfiest (if that's even a word!) long boots I've ever had. I've got zip up paddock boots for "good" and as such they are barely broken in so the zip is still in one piece.

I've also got blundstones for yard stuff and they are 6yrs old and look as good as new in spite of 6yrs of neglect. I reckon they are the most hard wearing ankle boot I've ever come across.

I've got Elite boots that last for years even with the neglect I subject them to! They're not as stylish as Ariat's but once I put them with some gaiters they're smart enough for posh lessons.

ariat zips have lasted me around 2 years medium use.
but the zips couldnt handle a week working on matt ryans yard all day everyday with lots of crap getting into them. they just died.
so although i LOVE them for at grans where im only there on w/e and in holidays, for everyday heavy use i would recommend ariats with laces.

I've always had the problem of boots that don't last longer than 6 months and now find the only way is to keep changing boots ie I use my Ariats for riding ONLY and make sure I put my muck boots on for catching horses, walking dogs etc. (Luckily I don't have to muck out) My Ariats are over a year old and still look almost new !!!

I have Konigs for competing but day to day use the Ariat with the Close contact chap. I have them in the waxed chocolate an they look like a long boot.

For winter I have the Ariat Glaciers which I can wear for teaching in arenas that don't have the best drainage and can be really soggy. They also keep my feet warm and I can ride in them if I need to get on.

I have just bought some de niro boots for comps and they are lovely (they will be lucky to get near to a horse in all honesty

) I have the ariat terrain laceups and dublin chaps and normally get to about 18 months wear in this combo - really comfy as they are meant to be for endurance riders and I really don't look after mine at all so they would porb last longer ith a bit of care

I must be really lucky as my Ariat boots last a year to 18 months. I wear them all day for work and for riding and mucking out either end of the day. They're probably on my feet for about 14 hours a day!

. I haven't the patienece to change them to muck out but I think what kills mine is rinsing them off under the tap before I polish them (a couple of times a week). I think they crack as the leather dries out. I'm on my 5th or 6th consecutive pair and have never had a zip malfunction, touch wood. I have been thinking about the waterproof ones for next time.

I have competed and hunted in Cavallo boots that I got for my 21st (I'll let you guess how long ago that was!) until my mother realised that she could see my ankle poking through a hole during my dressage test at Blair last year. She bought me some Sarm Hippique boots (1600??) as a replacement which are super-smart and I'm really liking having a zip.

I've had the ankle on my Cavallos patched and will continue to use them for hunting as they are an awful lot tougher leather than the Sarms.
