my bloody dog has eaten my boots...they were mountain horse high riders. now i have to sort out a replacement for them...i actually find the high riders a bit 'clumpy' and ugly looking but do think they are good yard boots for general yard jobs and riding, i just tend to put my 'proper' boots on for lessons and stuff. now am wondering whether i should replace them with something else...had my heart set on some ariat paddock boots and matching chaps but just realised that they don't cater for people with short fat legs

so has anyone got any suggestions for good yard boots that won't cost the earth?

alas my calves are not only chubby but they are short too

16 inches worth of short.... for my shoes size ariat think my legs should be 18 inches long

hmmm...not too keen on the tuffa ones personally...i think they look chunkier than the mountain horse ones? i really would like something a bit more streamlined....my stirrups are quite small and i prefer a more pointed toe...if possible!

I have Harry Hall Faros as well as short and chunky calves - the MH normal ones are too tall (never found a short pair to try and didn't want to order online without trying) The normal length/width ones fit me fine. I'd say they're fairly similar in appearance to the MH ones but a lot cheaper (I paid £60 for them, reduced from £75) I too wear proper riding boots for competitions.

I love my Equitector boots (but I haven't looked at their range for ages so can't be sure what they have on offer now).

The ones I have are ankle height and have the amazing insulated lining which REALLY works so is great for winter. The soles are specially designed for riding too. Anyway might be worth a look to see if they have anything you like the look of

Have you thought about putting some heel risers in the ariats?? I only have short calves and these gave me the extra inch or so I needed to be able to wear these boots

does anyone have the treadstep leather gaiters? they seem to do a size that will fit so i could get them with the ariat paddock boots? would that work?

I love the Treadstep gaiters - they're quite popular on my yard and they're comfy and fit well, tho my calves are on the narrower size and often seem a slightly awkward shape to boot

I noticed some people are buying insulated boots now and I'm desperate to get a pair in for winter... The Mark Todd Cook ones look good but I thought I saw a diff pair in last month's Horse (which has helpfully walked) for something like £40 - I'm on a budget and they're just for everyday, not competing and posh lessons! Would be v grateful for any pointers here...

they are very lovley but seemed to wear down quite quick. They are all shiney now... not the suedy feel when i first got them. i wear mine with a pair of mh boots and they go well togther. Ive fallen in love with the ariat conistons though.... Going to try them on on Saturday and see if they fit wide calves
