Firstly please be gentle I don't normally come in CR much but thought that I was more likely to get the input I want in here!

My horse is rising 5 and still pretty green in the school but I'm starting to ask for a bit more now and school for a bit longer and a bit more intensively than I have been doing and I'm starting to wonder whether I should be protecting her legs.

I'm not a serious competitive rider, I've only done RC stuff in the past and my aim for my youngster is to bring her on to be a nice RC all rounder but to affiliate in dressage.

At the moment she is only shod in front, she wears OR boots whenever she is ridden and she does need these, she forges occasionally and catches her feet against each other sometimes too. She has some knee brushing boots which she wears to hack in. She also has a set of Equilibrium Tri-zone Brushing boots, which I would put on for lunging, or jumping but I don't tend to put them on to school on the flat.

I'm wondering whether she would benefit from something like stretch and flex wraps or premier equine sports boots for schooling. I don't feel confident in my own ability to put exercise bandages on and she isn't great at standing still so I'm unlikely to be able to do a decent job!

So what would people recommend for flat work schooling? Wraps? Boots? Bare legs? Or do I really need to learn to bandage properly?

I use a variety of things - my youngster wears over reach boots all the time when ridden whatever we are doing. Hacking he then has the knee/brushing combo boots in front and equilibrium brushing boots behind. Schooling he has the same boots behind and either equilibrium strech and flex boots (so the brush boot shaped ones rather than the longer ones) or polo bandages depending on time/what is clean! He does sometimes kick himself - noticeable scuff marks on hind boots - so I prefer to be super careful!

Your Trizone boots in front for schooling are fine.

No matter what people might argue, for most bandaging is just for fashion :)

Agreed!

I use aircooled XC boots in front (PE ones) and standard XC boots behind for schooling/hacking. No boot or bandage will ever provide 'support' so really what you are looking for is protection from bangs and knocks, and your brushing boots are fine for this.

:D my husband will love you guys, talking me out of buying more "stuff" for the horse!

I'll boot her up with the tri-zone boots then.

The picture threads on here should come with a public health warning for your wallet ;)
