I'm tryng my 5 y.o. barefoot and now I've increased her work, she is wearing her hooves out.

I purchased a pair of Cavallos and although they are the size of her hoof, I have problems getting them on as they are quite tight. I then bought some Old Mac G2's which are ok but I don't really like the inner strap as I think it will probably rub.

Next, I got the Easyboot Fix Kit and tried her feet out for the gloves. They are very tight to get on and virtually impossible to get off which implies they fit, but the front groove does not expand as the instructions say it should. According to them, if the groove doesn't expand then the boot is too big. The next size down is way too small and I can't even get her foot in it.

Any advice on what are the best boots as I'm spending a fortune at the moment?

OH mare has the gloves, and you are right, they are a absolute bugger to get on and even harder to get off! Both her width and length measurements fit within one size, the front 'v' expands a v little - it clearly doesn't expand at all on a larger size. She is still growing her nail holes out and even a little snag of the edge of her hoof wall can make it super difficult to get them on. I do think a bit of it is having the nack though as it is getting a little less difficult as they are used more. Unfortunatly doing without isn't possible as she is still footy without them on challenging surfaces.

Have you checked out the size guides on the saddlery shop website? They can also advise you on which brand might suit your horse's foot shape and dimensions?

If you have time, try gently increasing her workload over the next few weeks/a month, you may well find that if the only problem is slow growth then with a steady work increase she will sort it out herself. It took my mare about a month to ramp her growth up to deal with the amount of work we are doing at the moment - it is fab as she keeps her feet perfectly now that they have adjusted to our workload!
