Hi
Probably a stupid question but can any boots be used when hacking on moorland when it's wet and muddy and dirty?
Someone said no as little stones and grit and water will get in and rub?
She's barefoot but in this wet weather she's sore on stones. Track out is pure stones.
Also battling mud fever that's probably not helping.
My first winter with my baby.

I've just bought EasyTrek Epics for my son's pony who is barefoot and sore on stones. They've done a couple of fast hacks in the fields and forest tracks and have stayed put so far...

Speak with the lovely folk at the Saddlery Shop or the Hoof Boutique and they'll tell you which brands to try. They both offer a rental service too, which is great.

Yes they can be used in mud. I use Viper Renegades all round and hack through deep mud and water without any issues at all. Better than bruised soles. How are you treating the mud fever?

Thanks I'm. Definitely going to look into some.
So far re mud fever, I'm putting on sudocrem to the scabs, and oiling the rest of the leg with either neem oil, baby oil tried udder cream, turnout boots have been ordered as it's a muddy mess in the field.

Apologies if you already know all this but if you are really struggling with the mud fever try washing the area with Malaseb antibacterial shampoo, work into a lather and leave on for 10 minutes before washing off. Dry thoroughly but gently and try to leave open to the air and a clean environment as much as you can. The Malaseb kills the bacteria and ideally needs to be repeated for three days. I have had very good results with Lincoln Muddy Buddy cream instead of Sudocreme as it is also antibacterial and whatever you do don't pick the scabs off, the new skin is tender and you risk the infection spreading. Touch wood my boy hasn't had it for three years now but it is the way I have always treated him and it's always gone within two weeks.

Thank you I had read people using malaseb, I did wash in coatex last week (I know not to wash frequently but I had to wash mud off to apply cream etc)
I might have malaseb somewhere to try.

I'm using Scoot Boots at the moment with the extra mud straps and they have never come yet and we have ridden in bad going. I like the scoots in muddy conditions because you can just hose them off and they dry straight away. I previously used various boots with neoprene gaiters and in winter they never really dried out between wears when they got wet unless I took them home to dry.

Westropp Knee and Brushing Boots are all in one boots that never slip or slide because of the way they are shaped. I never hack out my old girl without them on because should she trip I know her knees will be protected. Broken knees are not a pretty sight.
