What do you all prefer to use ?

I normally use boots, but looking for a new set and wondering if exercise bandages are better protection ? if bandages do you use some sort of wrap underneath ?

Thanks.

p.s. my horse just does a bit of general hacking, some small jumps and light schooling but is a bit clumsy so I always boot her front and back.

I like a good quality set of exercise boots for everyday wear, with specialised boots for when I'm jumping/XC/Gallop schooling. I only really use exercise bandages at Squads/Competitions. Bandages look great, but must always be used with a pad, and need to be applied correctly. I prefer Bandages when travelling, and when yarded or boxed at competitions. I have so many standing wraps, I love to match them to the rugs for each competition :p

Correctly applied bandages provide better protection but the 'correctly applied' part is very important. -- If you've not used them before (and since you are asking about padding underneath I assume you haven't) then you need someone to help you the first few times and check them the next... if in doubt stick with boots...

As for using pads underneath, I like old fashioned gamgee but almost as good is well worn fibergee... new fibergee is horrible to use so I wash it about 5 times before I use it...

I tend to use bandages for hacking out and flat schooling but if jumping or doing lots of fast work i always put on boots. Although bandages do provide very good protection I prefer to use tendon boots just incase as they have the harder back and mine tends to kick his front legs espec jumping. But yes bandages always have to have protection under. I bought some great ones when in america that had the padding attached so as you unrolled the first layer was gamgee and then the elastic over top...very much simpler! But bandages applied wrongly can cause terrible probs one girl on my yard caused her pony to go lame for 2 months as she bandaged incorrectly for a long period of time.

I use boots as they are easier to put on and off and les time consuming! Banadages, if applied correctly are great and do look really smart, but be careful as they can do more harm than good if they are not put on correctly.

Looks like i'll stick with boots, since i've never used exercise bandages before, i use fleece bandages for stabling and travelling as don't like travel boots, but have never used them for exercise so would worry i'm putting them on wrong.

I have recently started using bandages and love them they really help my mare whose legs tend to fill up as she has windgalls. even though they are polos, i still use the eskadron climatex lining underneath which protects legs more and allows them to breath.
I still use boots for jumping though
