I've heard a lot of things about horse boots and them causing legs to over heat and causing more damage then they're protecting etc. Just wanted to know peoples opinions on them?

Personally, i do low level jumping, hacking, canter work, schooling and a few logs without any boots at all as my welsh D seems absolutely fine!
If people are going competing, do you use boots? Do you use boots if shod? Just want to hear thoughts!

Also, has anyone ever tried equilibrium boots? I know they are specialized in keeping your horses leg cool and if i were to use boots, they'd be the only ones i would consider?

Any experience or any thoughts etc would be greatly appreciated and welcome!

Thanks!

Most modern boots are designed with cooling in mind.

I have a mare who is close behind, so she wears hinds, the other mare isn’t so she doesn’t. Both wear tendon boots in front when jumping

I put brushing boots on for most schooling and hacking and tendon and fetlock boots for jumping. Depending on how much feather your Welsh has it might be that brushing boots wouldn't offer much more protection than the feathers do.

As SS says quite a few of the boots are designed now with cooling in mind. I haven't tried the equilibrium ones but the shires arma airflow ones I have found quite good.

TBH it does really depend on your horse and what it's doing but I like to give a bit of protection when schooling and we always used open fronted tendon boots for jumping biggish fences and decent boots all round for XC but again for decent size fences. I always use over reach boots for turnout on a shod horse. I was once told the most useful boot for hacking out on the road is a knee boot but how many people use them?

Have never used knee boots but i think they're a good idea. I'm not really after any boots to put on her just wanted to know what people used for the future!
