Well i shouldn't really have been competing there today but a friend of mine who was entered in the teams sadly broke her collar bone pony racing the other day so there was a pony on the junior team with no rider. Last weekend got a phone call asking if i'd like to have the ride, so i jumped at the opportunity having not competed for a month or so and really needing a competitive run
(not to mention the pony is gorgeous and i really wanted to have a sit on him anyway!!)
So i sat on him twice this week for a run through the test and a little pop in the school and then off we set for borde hill this morning for the junior novice teams (my last year in juniors
) pony is a 15hh coloured chunky little chappy with the most lovely paces and sweetest pop but only just turned 5
So warmed up for dressage, and went in to do a fairly ok test, i was warned that he feels worse than he actually looks so i was fairly optimistic that he had gone ok. He didnt really understand give and retakes in canter and he broke in one canter so thought it was an average test. Considering he's a just 5yr old though i was pleased
Onto the SJ which was buzzy as usual but a nice course. Had a few sticky baby moments but he was so so honest and got us out of trouble a few times to post a clear round which i was chuffed to bits about
Onto the XC which i was advised to really kick on and keep him moving. So off we set meaning business and he gave me the most wonderful ride
was grinning from ear to ear afterwards and was so impressed with him and sooo happy
He was also one of only two in my section who were clear with no time penalties
So couldn't have asked for more from a youngster who i'd only sat on twice
The icing on the cake of course was to find that he had done the best dressage in the section of 31.8 with several 7s and 8s including an 8 for his paces and we'd won our section!
And to top it all off the team won as well and qualified for the championships!
I was completely shell shocked but extremely happy!!
Not bad for a days work really, feel very lucky
