Border Collies - tell me all about them

I know a fantastic gun dog/pet/just about anything/ does tricks etc

She is a spangle (think cocker) X collie.

She looks like a slightly pointy springer and seems to carry the best of both breeds.

I used to have a springerxcollie who was a true multi purpose dog and when I was a child 2 aunts each had a brother and sister collie x spaniel who were great intelligent family pets.

I think it must be a X sometimes deliberately bred by farmers to produce a multi purpose gun dog. Perhaps look for that cross then you both get what you want.

My border collie works sheep and also works on our local shoot! He has been known to show the springers up when working the cover!!

Border collies can be hard work but if trained well they are great pets and working dogs!

I don't like them tbh probably cos the only one we had years ago was shot by a farmer for sheep worrying. It was the only dog we had as kids that wasn't a lab and as small children we didn't understand why he didn't come home

Funnily enough my very first working dog was a Lab x Australian Huntaway (another name for a collie!!) who was in fact just about the most intelligent I ever owned.

At first glance he looked like a fine boned yellow lab but on closer inspection you could see the collie in him.

You might just be onto something there

that is the one big thing with a collie, introduce them to sheep as young as possible, and teach them to ignore them, etc asap!!!! unless you want it to work sheep then the approach is different!

But they rock!
