Hi we have a border collie puppy, she's called ruby, she's black+white and adorable lol I just wanted some advice on the breed and their behaviour etc and your experience of the breed. She's very good currently, she's house trained, asks to go out and she's friendly and affectionate :)

How old is she? Have you had a BC before?

Collies need lots and lots of (careful) socialization . . . and they must have lots of exercise and feel like they have a "job" to do. Collies excel at sports like flyball and agility - it channels their natural intelligence and high energy. They are extremely loyal, but do tend to pick one person in a household/family to be "their" person.

I currently have two BC crosses - both with a high degree of collie in them. One is laid back, easy, amenable, unflappable, sociable and very forgiving . . . the other is neurotic, skitty, sensitive and nervous . . . we've had them both from puppies (both from rescues) and have treated them both the same (as far as possible). They are both, however, very trainable and obedient, have great recall, are very loving and I wouldn't be without either of them.

I hope that helps :).

Border collies are the most amazing, intelligent, sensitive dogs ever, I am on my second bc m his name is Goose and he is the best tempered dog ever, Although super sensitive, you have to talk to him nicely otherwise he has a melt down lol. goosey is very tall and coming out with the horses since a puppy , he bounces a lot and is 10 mths old... Just be careful to not give too much exercise before puppy is fully grown , at least 1 yrs old. Goose needs lots of mental stimulation, you will never be able to give them enough walking exercise, they need to run free off the lead and when home have things to do, otherwise they will find their own entertainment!!

i have a border collie cross and she has been very easy to train, is very affectionate, really obedient..i have had her from a puppy and she is very sensitive and gets upset if i tell my other dog off( i never need to tell her off as she is so good) she is in a good routine, has 2 good off lead walks a day, and is currently fast asleep in front of the fire.....i think we need piccies of your pup please!!!!

She's 3mths old so quite little, she is just lovely natured, I haven't had a bc before but have read up about them, we have a big garden and adjoining fields so she can run and we have an 11yr old and 13yr old and my daughter likes to do agility with our westie lol not really sure if I can upload a pic but will have a go x

Yay welcome to the world of border collies. I have a 12 year old BC. He is incredibly intelligent, needs a lot of exercise and mental stimulation (even at his age he still runs about like a loony) and would agree with lots of careful socialization. My dog was not socialized carefully as a youngster, he has always been very dog aggressive. He has a couple of doggy friends but we have to be very careful with him in public places.

He is incredibly loyal and is so much fun. Although easy to train, they can take bad experiences quite personally. I would have another but you need to get it right from the beginning and be able to offer them the sort of mental and physical stimulation they need.

Sneaky pic of mine a couple of years ago. We need a pic :)

I've owned Border Collies for 18 years now and have had 6 over this time, I currently have 3 girls, aged 12.5 years, 8 years and nearly 4 years, I bred the youngest girl. I compete at agility and flyball and believe they need to be kept mentally stimulated and physically exercised. They can be very sensitive dogs. I would only get a pup from fully health test parents (DNA tested for CEA, CL and TNS, hip scored and eye tested for PRA and gonioscopy tested) and pups BVA eye tested and BAER hearing tested from lines I know are free from epilepsy and the parents having a good temperament.

I love, love LOVE, border collies. My girl sadly passed away two years ago aged 14 and she never put a foot wrong. highly intelligent, very obedient, easy to train and very very loyal. she picked me out of the whole household and was most definitely 'my dog' however, she looked after my daughter and protected her too. I think she understood her vulnerability as she was little. I now have a dappy Dalmatian and as much as I love her, I will never get one again but will most definately have another BC in the future. I need pics please!!! :)

he's gorgeous Umbongo :)

fabulous breed but you need to give her a job to do, regardless of how much physical exercise you give it's not enough without the mental exercise.

I would highly recommend starting good puppy / training classes as soon as possible, good for socialisation as well as exerciseing her brain. If you don't exercise her brain then you will have problems when she gets to be around a year old - I found they go througha teenage phase but they do grow out of it and is definately helped by working them in some way.

I love Border Collies, I've always chosen them, partly because my parents had a great one when I was a toddler/small child, who used to pretty much be my babysitter :p

We have two working collies. They are constantly on the go so you do need to keep them stimulated and plenty of activity. Some lovely photos on here, I will try and find a photo of ours.

I have two, both from rescues. One we got as a puppy (around 12 weeks), and he is just the most loving dog - he is calm and laid back most of the time, but as soon as we get up and go he can go for hours! The other, we got at around 18 months and she had a much more dubious past, she isn't that friendly with other dogs (unless she is allowed to get to know them and become comfortable around them) and is very high energy. They are both amazing dogs and both do agility. I cant see myself having any other breed of dog really (I never wanted a BC!).
